District Profile
Sequoia Union High School District (SUHSD) is a public high school district in the heart of Silicon Valley on the San Francisco Peninsula, California. SUHSD serves nearly 9,000 students across several communities, including Atherton, Belmont, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, Redwood Shores, San Carlos, and Woodside. Established in 1895, SUHSD operates four large, comprehensive high schools, (Carlmont, Menlo-Atherton, Sequoia and Woodside), a small dependent charter school (East Palo Alto Academy), a continuation high school (Redwood), an Adult School based in Redwood City that serves 2000 students annually, and a Middle College program in collaboration with Cañada College as well as other specialized programs and services. The district is also the sponsoring agency for an independent charter high school, Summit High School in Redwood City.

The district completed a strategic plan in 2024 that serves as a roadmap for our school system, aligning all partners on common goals and a unified direction for our district in order to build a stronger school system for all students. The creation of this community-wide strategic plan was led by a diverse group of all partners including students, parents, community representatives, teachers, administrators, and staff.

SUHSD offers a wide range of academic programs, including more than than 120 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, dual college enrollment, and career technical education (CTE) pathways, all aimed at preparing students for college, career, and life beyond high school. The district emphasizes student well-being, offering robust counseling services, mental health resources, and extracurricular activities ranging from athletics to arts.
SUHSD continuously works to close opportunity gaps among its students, who come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. SUHSD is widely regarded as a leading district in the Bay Area for its innovative approaches to education and community engagement.
