BADMINTON CCS NEWS
We had three teams qualify for the PAL badminton championships this past
weekend (5/17). Men's doubles: Alex Amato & Daniel Chao, and Women's
doubles: Sandy Nicolet & Erica Shepard, as well as Ada Chan & Nora
Ng-Quinn. These players had to participate in a three-day tournament
just to get to Saturday's matches at Woodside. Think about it! How
many of our teams had to play in two tournaments just to get a chance to
go to CCS? It was four long hot days of six hours or more. Our players
did great and Alex and Daniel will be going on to participate at CCS
this coming up week. The coaches are very happy and proud of their
efforts. Wish us luck. Brought to you by Coach P (Podesta).
SWIMMING
The Menlo-Atherton Boys Varsity Swim Team was recognized as the Spring
Scholastic Championship Team on Saturday, May 16, at the CCS
Championships held at Stanford University. The award is given to the
Varsity team from each CCS sport with the highest collective grade-point
average of all teams competing in that sport during that season of
competition. The M-A boys varsity swim team, with a collective
unweighted GPA of 3.7, bested over 70
swim teams competing at CCS. The members of the 2008 swim team are
seniors Matt Bogott, Alp Kutlu, Jason Kwok, and Alex Popp; juniors,
Richard Hong, Simon Hood, Chris Kelvie and Reid Schultz; sophomores Jed
Springer, Scott Swartz and Eric Wright; and freshmen Nick Henze, Kei
Masuda and Jackson Rafter. Congratulations!
TENNIS
M-A IS THE NO. 2 SEED IN CCS
The PAL doubles champions, M-A's top two players, George Horowitz and
Alec Haley, have been selected as the No. 2 seed in the CCS Individual
Tournament! They begin play on Tuesday morning at the tournament site
in Aptos. The first two rounds are on Tuesday with the Semis and Finals
on Thursday.
