FOR SENIOR FAMILIES
Grad Night 2008
There are only 2 forms that need to be sent to Daryl Camarillo for the Senior Grad Night. One to order the ticket(s) and one for the authorization to attend. In creating the permission form for your graduate to attend the Grad Night party, we reduced the number of forms from 3 to 1, combining the authorization form, parent's approval and participant's waiver. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for understanding, the Grad Night Committee.

Transcript Requests
When ordering your final transcript for your college, make sure you put a 42 cent stamp or Forever stamp on the envelope. The cost of postage goes up May 12th and final transcripts go out the end of June, AFTER the price increase.

JOIN IN THE FUN! 3rd ANNUAL BIG BEAR RUN ON SUNDAY, MAY 4, 2008
If you haven't been to the Big Bear Run before, you have been missing out on a great M-A community event! The Big Bear Run is a chance to run a professionally timed 5K course or walk with friends and family through the beautiful neighborhoods around M-A. In addition to current M-A students and families, the race draws alumni who graduated from M-A in the 1970s and '80s and lots of kids and families from Hillview, Oak Knoll and M-A's feeder schools. Last year participants ranged in age from babies in strollers to runners over sixty. Awards are given for all age groups. Come enjoy music, refreshments and entertainment from both M-A's award winning Jazz Band and our awesome Dance Team. The proceeds from the event support the M-A Athletic Boosters, a parent-led organization that helps to pay for uniforms, equipment and facility upgrades for M-A's 52 girls and boys sports teams. You can register online at www.active.com or download a registration form at www.m-aboosters.org. Register now so you'll be ready to run on Sunday the 4th. Questions: please contact Beth Harris at elizabethharris60 at comcast.net.

BIG BEAR RUN SHIRTS ARE HERE
If you have registered for the Big Bear Run, or still want to, stop by to pick up your t-shirt and race bib and avoid the race day registration rush. We will be at the M-A T-lot on Ringwood Avenue on Friday, May 2, from 2:30 to 3:30PM. To register, bring your checkbook. Entry fees are $20 for adults and $10 for students 18 or younger. The price increases $5 after April 28. You may also register the morning of race day. Be ready to run (or walk) at 9AM sharp on Sunday, May 4th.

*Guidance/Career Center*
Friday, May 2 is absolutely the last day for students to drop a class. The class will still appear on the transcript with a withdraw/pass or withdraw/fail. Have your student see a guidance counselor if they still need to drop a class.

*Arts, Music and Drama*
The M-A Jazz Combo took third place at the Reno Jazz Festival this past weekend in its category, with outstanding musicianship awards to Gilbert Fix on bass and Mitchell Nahmias on piano. This is the first time that any M-A Jazz Combo has placed in the top five. The M-A Jazz Band competed well in its category which had a very narrow point spread in judging. The band obtained excellent marks, with outstanding musicianship awards given to vocalist Holly Smolik, Mitchell Nahmias on piano, Gilbert Fix on bass, Charlie Fitz on tenor, Jenna Fejervary on bass clarinet and Andy del Calvo on drums. More than 9,000 students and guests attended the festival, from over 170 schools. M-A's "A" category is based on school size.

OUTREACH
Outreach will be participating in assisting Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, May 10th. If you are interested in helping, please stop by for an application in the career center. We have room for ten. This is a wonderful way to empower low income families to become homeowners.

*Athletics*
TRACK AND FIELD
If you are not participating in PALs, you must turn in your uniform to the assistant track coach in the health office or you will be billed for the uniform.

LACROSSE
Varsity. The girls varsity lacrosse team lost a close game to Burlingame on Tuesday, 8 to 5. Scoring for the Bears were Casey Burnett with 2 goals, Alex Fanelli with 2 goals, and Margho Dunnahoo-Kirsch with 1 goal. For the boys varsity lacrosse team, this final PAL game before play-offs was a nail biter from start to finish. The Menlo Knights led at the half, 5 to 4. But the Bears roared back, taking the lead in the 4th quarter and winning 8 to 7. Our fans went wild! With 6 goals between them, the McLaughlin to Sklarin connection proved deadly for the Knights. Charlie Fitz and Kevin Flaherty also scored one a piece. Our entire lax squad played well with special shout-outs to Andrew Dahlkemper, Sam Pierce and Bo Dunnahoo Kirsch for tenacious defensive play. On to the play-offs!

Junior Varsity. Another great game for the girls JV lacrosse team. Final score M-A 15 and Burlingame 4. Great scoring with Chloe Peters leading with 7 goals, Tiffany Kung and Ellora Israni two goals and Christina Rogers, Caroline Edwards, Paige Solomon and Melanie Bloom scoring one goal each. Defense held the line with Monica Decker, Ameena El-Bibany, Ashley Starr and Cat Carragee. Goalie Megan Lazar blocked numerous shots on goal! M-A's JV lacrosse team was also at work on Saturday for the lacrosse tournament hosted by M-A. It was a long, hot day for our girls but they won the tournament in the final game against Miramonte High with a score of 6 to 3!

GOLF
Congratulations to M-A Juniors Nick Sako and Ben Jackson for placing 3rd and 7th respectively in the PAL Individual Golf Championships held at Shoreline and Crystal Springs Golf Courses on April 29th and 30th. Nick fired a 2 under par 70 at Shoreline and finished with 79 at Crystal Springs for a tournament total of 149, while Ben shot 2 solid rounds of 77 and 78 for a 2 day total of 155. The Bears travel to Carmel next week for the CCS Regional tournament, having received an automatic berth after clinching the PAL Bay Division Championship for the 2nd year in a row. Good luck to our 6-player CCS team, which will consist of Nick Sako, Jake Hall Toy, Nick Chladek, Ben Jackson, Brian Jordan, and Will Bauer.

BASEBALL
The varsity baseball team defeated Capuchino in a league contest Wednesday 8-2. The bats came alive with RBIs from Abi Arias, Lee Bader, Matt Hornberger, Jeff Keller, Sam Knapp and Kevin Viegas. Sam Knapp went 3 for 4.

TENNIS
M-A TENNIS IN CCS FOR 3RD YEAR IN AS ROW
The M-A Boy's Tennis team was awarded a slot in the CCS Playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year. Although the PAL is one of the toughest leagues in the CCS and the Bears were a few points from a second place finish, their strength of schedule as well as victories over other league champs were impressive enough for the coaches to vote them in. In each of the last two years, M-A has upset a seeded league champion in the first round. This year shouldn't be any different as the confident Bears take on league champ Aptos at M-A on Wednesday at 3PM.

Go Bears. Grrrr.
