*Announcements*

AP TEST SIGN UP INFORMATION
Registration for the AP tests will be Wednesday, March 12, Thursday,
March 13 at lunch only, outside the library.  The cost per test is $86.
Checks can be made payable to MAHS. If taking multiple tests, one check
for all is acceptable.   Cash is also accepted.  Please write the
following information on the front of your check:
1. Student's first and last name
2. The exact name of the AP test(s) you are taking. (Be specific e.g. AP
English is not enough, we need to know if it is AP English Lit or AP
English Language). 
If you are unable to register at these times, you may have a friend or
relative do so for you.  If you need financial assistance, please see
Lorrie Orcutt in the front office prior to registering.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2008
The deadline for handing in the 2008 Summer Reading Book Order forms is
March 28, 2008.  They should be returned to your student's English
teacher.   If needed, the list of required books and the order form are
available for downloading from the www.mabears.org website.  Look on the
home page under "new documents".  Thank you for supporting the M-A
English Dept and helping to provide extra copies of books for students
requiring assistance.  Any questions:  contact Virginia Weiss at

DENISE POPE COMING TO MENLO-ATHERTON
Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00PM., M-A Library. Nationally noted Stanford
lecturer and author, Dr. Denise Pope, will address M-A parents with
results from the Stressed-Out Students survey. Do not miss this
important event! Come hear about M-A student attitudes on academic
stress, homework, peer and parent relationships, academic
integrity/cheating, substance and alcohol use/abuse, and more. Space is
limited! Please RSVP to PTA Parent Education Co-Chair Charlene Margot,

MIDDLE COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT TOMORROW
Middle College High School will be holding an information meeting here
at Menlo Atherton in the Library on Tuesday, March 11th from 7-8 PM. for
anyone interested in learning more about the program. For more
information, see your guidance advisor.

*Clubs*

KEY CLUB BANQUET TO BENEFIT VICTIMS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES.
The 70 members of the Menlo Atherton Key Club will host a pasta banquet
fundraiser with raffle on Saturday, March 15th for the victims of the
Southern California Wildfires. They expect a crowd of 100-200 people.
Invitations are extended to the M-A faculty, Kiwanis, parents and
friends of Key Clubbers, and the PTA. For more information contact Key
Club president, senior Ariane Khalfa, arianekhalfa at gmail.com.

*Athletics*

SWIMMING
The Swim Bears started their season with big wins against Aragon and
achieving 5 Boys CCS qualifying times. Frosh-Soph Girls and Boys teams
won 126-70 and 103-62, with Heather Bogott, Anna Geiduschek, and Andrew
Higgitt each winning 2 events. Varsity Boys also won 120-40, and Varsity
Girls swam well but came up short 79-91. Varsity Boys winners were Kai
Matsuda in both 200 Free (1:55.73) and 500 Free (5:08.77 CCS); Chris
Kelvie in 50 Free (22.90 CCS) and 100 Fly (55.60 CCS); Richard Hong in
200 IM (2:10.49 CCS) and 100 Breast (1:05.65 CCS); Scott Swartz in 100
Back (59.55); and Jason Kwok in 100 Free (52.00). Varsity Girls winners
were Becca Dorst in both the 200 IM (2:26.88) and 100 Back (1:07.45);
Sarah Lipps in 100 Fly (1:13.59); and Sarah Winters in 500 Free
(5:38.06). The next meet is 3PM, Thursday, March 13th, when the Bears
host Westmoor. 

BASEBALL
The varsity baseball team had a tough week, suffering two losses to
Menlo 13-5 and 12-6 but came back with a strong victory over visiting
Lowell Saturday, 1-0.   Micheal Stosz pitched a gem of a complete game,
giving up only two hits and Abi Arias won the game with a walk-off homer
in the bottom of the 7th.  This week on Wednesday, the Varsity team
travels to Mills and the Frosh Soph team plays Mills here.  On Friday,
Varsity plays Mills here and Frosh Soph plays there.  All the weekday
games start at 3:15.   On Saturday, Washington comes to M-A to play two
with the Varsity game starting at noon and the Frosh Soph game at 3:00. 
Come out, enjoy the weather and some great ball games. 

TENNIS
M-A Tennis Picks Up Another Win.  A day after suffering their first loss
of the season in a non-league match to a powerful Homestead squad, the
Bear Netters got back on the winning track with a resounding 7-0
demolition of the Dons of Aragon.  Dominant performances were turned in
by the 3 doubles teams of Viliami Talakai/Takai Tuionetoa, Roland
Smith/Zack Wentz and Noah Greenberg/Alden Mitchell.  The Bears upped
their record to 4-1 on the season.
