RETURN TEXTBOOKS

Request from the textbook room: please remind your student(s) to return all first semester class textbooks ASAP.  The books that we need returned include Economics, Government, Gender Studies, Psychology, and World Studies III.  Thanks for your help in getting these books returned!

BLOOD DRIVE

Attention MA BEARS! We are having a blood drive on Friday, January 18. THAT IS THIS FRIDAY, SO DON'T FORGET TO EAT A BIG BREAKFAST! Sadly, due to the recent storms, the Bay area is having a blood shortage and surgeries have been postponed until volunteers like yourselves donate more blood. ITS TIME FOR MA TO STEP IT UP AND SAVE LIVES BY DONATING BLOOD! Listen the next few days for updates on the blood drive or visit the leadership room B-21 if you have any questions. HELP SAVE LIVES

AFTERSCHOOL HOMEWORK CENTER

The after-school homework center is open for business starting today!  Teachers and tutors will be available in the Library every Monday and Tuesday from 2:30-4:30 and on Thursdays from 2:00-4:00 to help you with your homework. Start your semester off right by coming to our very own library right after your last class.  Get that extra help you need to make this the best semester yet!  

MATH CONTEST

The first math contest of the new semester is tomorrow at lunch.  Donâ  t miss this opportunity to earn extra credit for your math class.  


MEASURE J

Measure J is the Sequoia Union High School District bond issue that will be on the February 2008 ballot.  This bond will build and renovate classrooms, provide career and technical education for biotechnology, robotics and health sciences, upgrade each high school campus, and create a 10-year technology fund to keep computers and technology up to date.  Please support this vital school bond. PICK-UP YOUR FASHION SHOW DVD THIS WEDNESDAY!

The wait is over! The memory of our fabulous Seniorâ  s strutting down the runway have been preserved for us in a DVD, expertly produced by our own Chris Cornelius. If you ordered a DVD, you (or your student) can pick up your copy(s) during lunch on Wednesday, in front of the computer lab that is next to the library. We will also have a limited number of extra copies available for sale for $25, on a first-come basis. If you have questions, please contact Gale Lane at gale13 at sbcglobal.net. 

TECHNOLOGY CHALLENGE EXAM

The Technology Challenge Exam will be administered for the Spring semester on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 1:45 p.m.   Prior sign ups are required by January 18, 2008.  Students should go to the Guidance Office to sign up.  To get info on the tech exam, you can go to the district's website at www.seq.org <file:///\\www.seq.org>  <http://www.seq.org <http://www.seq.org> >  and click on "For Students and Parents".  Then scroll down to Technology Graduation Requirements and then click on preparing for the test.

Senior pages are an excellent way to dedicate some space in the yearbook to honor your child's significant accomplishment of completing high school.  You can create this memory together or even make a wonderful surprise for your child to discover at the end of the year! MONDAY, JANUARY 14, LUNCH:  Students interested in The Experiment in International Living, a truly excellent summer program (and longstanding tooâ  I know, since I went to Brazil with the Experiment many long years ago!) should come to the Career Center during lunch period to learn more about this program.  One M-A sophomore or junior can win a scholarship (offered by a generous Experiment alumnus and parent of an M-A grad), so students who cannot afford summer programs should come to this meeting too, to learn about the scholarship.  No need to sign up in advance; no pass needed.  Students can bring lunch.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 15: Seniors can come to the Career Center at lunch to learn about the Peninsula College Fund Scholarship, a generous scholarship for low-income students in the 3.3-3.8 GPA range.  Interested students can come learn more from me before the January 15 meeting, or can simply come Tuesday at lunch for details.  No need to sign up in advance, no pass needed.  Students can bring lunch.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 2:00-3:15: "Test Your Best" workshop for juniors who want to walk into the SAT (or ACT, or any test, for that matter) feeling more relaxed and confident.  Students MUST sign up in advance in the Career Center.  Juniors only, please!

TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 6:00 p.m., Career Center: Community College Night.  This evening includes a panel discussion, plus representatives from the five closest community colleges, plus free pizza.  This evening is for parents AND students.  RSVP required by e-mail or phone (322-5311 x 5141).

SEES: Spring Engineering Education Days at Santa Clara University.  During four Saturdays in April, students come to SCU and take both lecture and hands-on courses taught by engineering faculty. ULTIMATE FRISBEE

There is an Ultimate Frisbee meeting on Thursday at lunch in D-23. We hope to see you there.

BASKETBALL

The boys' varsity basketball team started off their league season with a resounding victory over visiting Half Moon Bay Wednesday.  The team had a total of 24 assists, with five each from Peter DeFilipps and Sam Knapp, and were led in scoring by Brendan McGrath with 12 points and Richard Branning with 11.  Then, on Friday night, the boys' varsity basketball team enjoyed a huge triumph over arch-rival Menlo.  The team won 43 to 38 led by a team-wide excellent defensive effort.  Brendan McGrath had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds,  Richard Branning had 11 points and Nicky Fogel had 10.  Congratulations to the M-A basketball teams for a CLEAN SWEEP vs. Menlo last Friday night.  The 6th man club was impressive!  


SOCCER

Girls Frosh/Soph 

Neither rain, wind or a collective 240 frozen toes seems to damper the Frosh/Soph girls' enthusiasm for the game.  Come cheer the girls on next week when they play Sequoia High at home on Coach Parks field.  Game time is Thursday, January 17th at 4:15pm  - playing continues until dark.  Go Bears! 


TENNIS

Attention tennis players.  There will be a mandatory meeting for the boy's tennis team on Tuesday, January 15, NOON at the tennis courts.  Past team members and anyone interested in trying out for the tennis team must attend.


SPRING SPORTS PACKAGES AVAILABLE

Packets are ready to be picked up now for any students interested in participating in spring sports.  Please come to the Administration Building, AVP Office to get a packet and physical screening exam form.  The completed packets must be in by Monday February 4, 2008.
