VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (AP TESTS and ESL TUTORING)
AP TESTS
Parent volunteers are needed to help with an easy Administration Support job at M-A on March 14th/15th. We need 8 parents to help with AP test sign-ups at lunch (11:15-12 noon) on Wednesday, March 12 and another 8 parents at lunch on Thursday, March 13th. We also need 1 volunteer to help with an Excel spreadsheet. Please email Lisa Dettmer at ldettmer2 at comcast.net to let her know if you are available to help with 1 of the shifts.
ESL TUTORING
We are currently looking for a volunteer ESL 1 Tutor to fill a vacancy on Thursday mornings in Ms Kane's ESL 1 class from 10:10am until 11:20am each week. Volunteers work one on two with students who have limited English language skills, some of whom are very new to the US. We need an additional tutor due to the recent addition of two new students. Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary. The goal is to encourage conversation and help with reading, comprehension and vocabulary as supplied by the teacher. This is a very rewarding job and an opportunity to work directly with our students, build relationships and make a difference in their struggles to navigate high school in a foreign language. Additionally, there is an ongoing need for ESL class tutors both on Thursday mornings and at other times during the week, so if you are interested in this time slot or have other time available, please call or e-mail me at 650 854 4206, cfairgrieve at mindspring.com to find out more. Many thanks, Cathy Fairgrieve.
EARLY ALERT SUMMER READING
M-A PTA will help your student make sure they get their summer reading books for English classes for 2008-2009. Lists and order forms will be delivered late February/early March to all the English classes and your student will be able to order by returning the form with payment to his or her teacher. Also, look for the list and order form in the March Trivocis and on the M-A website. The deadline for orders will be March 28, 2008. By ordering through the PTA, you will be helping the English Department fund additional books and materials that are needed throughout the year. Books will be delivered to the English classrooms by mid or late May.
