California Scholarship Federation sign-ups continue every day this week through this Friday, February-8 during lunch outside the library. Applications are available from your studentsâ   English teachers or from M-A's website: http://www.mabearspta.org/csf.html.  Students must bring a completed application and fall 2007 report card or transcript along with $3 fee. Students who need a transcript copy will pay an extra $1 fee. PEACE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE  


Students who are interested in spending a semester "studying peace, social justice, and environmental sustainability" should come to the Career Center tomorrow, February 5, during the lunch period to meet with a representative from The Woolman Semester (see www.woolman.org).  Juniors, seniors, and first-year post-grads can participate in this program that includes seminar-style course work, enrichment classes, a service-learning trip, and a wilderness week.  Come learn more at lunch on Tuesday!  No need to sign up in advance, and feel free to bring your lunch.

Wednesdayâ  s general meeting will focus on financial issues, with the treasurer's report and extra mini-grant requests by administration and faculty to spend much of our well-earned surplus in a prudent manner.  Please join us on Wednesday, February 6, 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. in Room F-15. MY NEW RED SHOES AND CHEVY'S  


Join us on Tuesday, February 12, and Wednesday, February 13 for Chevy's Night. From 11:00am until 9:00pm both days, 25% of all profits will go directly to My New Red Shoes, the organization that clothed over 950 Bay Area children last year.  Pick up a flyer at the M-A front office or B-21 to bring to Chevyâ  s.  
 


GET INSIDE YOUR TEENâ  S HEAD 


Join other parents at the M-A library on Wednesday, February 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. when the, directors of the Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS) present information on teen mental health issues. An important evening for all parents concerned about issues of stress, depression, eating disorders, cutting, suicide, peer/family issues and more. For more information, please contact Charlene Margot at charlenemargot at yahoo.com, Parent Education Series Co-Chair. Light refreshments and simultaneous Spanish translation will be provided. 


WINTER FORMAL TICKETS AVAILABLE 


Winter Formal tickets are on sale for Rendezvous in PARIS, scheduled for February 22.  Students can buy tickets outside B-21.  Students who want to toil for tix can sign up through Friday, but all work must be confirmed and completed by Thursday, February 14. Students who signed up and have not received a confirmation should stop by and see Mrs. Todd.  


DIPLOMA NAMES 


Diploma names are now posted in Pride Hall near the career center. Make sure your senior checks the list, as these are the names that will appear on diplomas. Contact Maria Ibarra in the Guidance office with any changes. .   
 


*Athletics* 


Spring Sports Parent/Athlete/Coach meeting is Tuesday, Feb 12, 7-9:30 pm in Ayers Gym.  Note:  the meeting is confirmed for Ayers Gym, NOT the library. 


SOFTBALL

Softball tryouts are being held every day from 3:30 to 5:30 on the softball field, rain or shine.  All are welcome; all you need is a glove and cleats. Hope to see you there. 


WRESTLING 


While thousands of Bay Area residents were stuck in a giant traffic jam on Highway 101, M-A wrestlers were trouncing the Aragon Dons in San Mateo by 54-23. Cory Gray and Isaak Huerta got pins, Joe Buttram scored a technical fall, and Tony Staples, Vincent Maier, and Roger Tonna won on points. 


Come watch the team take on Oceana tomorrow, Tuesday, February 5, for the last home meet and Senior Day. 


BASKETBALL 


The boys' varsity basketball team cruised to an easy league victory over Sequoia Friday 66-29 and are now 6-2 in the league. Sam Knapp had a double double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, Richard Branning made 5 three pointers and had a total of 19 points and Brendan McGrath scored 10. 


FOOTBALL 


Litani Moimoi has been offered a full scholarship from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas to play Division 1 football. Please help congratulate Moi for all of his hard work and dedication as a student/athlete when he signs a letter of intent on Wednesday, February 6 at 11:30 am in the new gym.
