M-A 101: ORIENTATION TO MENLO-ATHERTON HIGH SCHOOL Wednesday, Sept. 26, 10-11:30 a.m. or 6-7:30 p.m. in the M-A Library
1st Parent Education Series Event! Want to know more about M-A? Dazed and confused? Join Principal Matthew Zito, members of the Guidance staff, and current and returning students for an orientation to Menlo-Atherton. Mr. Zito will provide an M-A "how to" for new parents or anyone wanting to know more about "how M-A works." There will be an open Q & A at the end of each presentation. Questions? SENIOR PORTRAITS
Time is running out. It's time to get your senior portrait taken. If you want your picture in the yearbook, the deadline to take your senior portrait is September 28th. Seniors who have not taken their portraits by September 28th will NOT be in the yearbook. Come to room G7 if you have any questions.
FASHION SHOW
Fashion Show Sign ups are on Tuesday, Sept. 18 and Wednesday, Sept. 19. Encourage your students to participate in this important fundraiser. All Seniors who want to be in the fashion show must come to one of the two orientation meetings. Even if they got their picture taken at the end of last semester.....they need to attend one of these meetings. Students will sign up for rehearsals times, so they should bring a calendar with their prior commitments or know their availability. Seniors must meet eligibility requirements to participate. Outdoor Ed is HERE! Do you want to work with kids and provide an important community service? Be a counselor for Outdoor Ed. Encinal is looking for counselors for early Oct. Encourage your students to get applications NOW in room B-21.
DANCES
The "Fire It Up" Welcome Back dance is Friday, September 28 on the gym quad from 7:00 to 10:00, tickets will be sold on the green every day at lunch.

PEER MEDIATION TRAINING
For any students who are interested in being trained as peer mediators and being involved in the conflict resolution program, the training sessions are October 3-4 from 9:30 to 3:30, and will be run by members of the Stanford Conflict Resolution Program and PCRC. Please see Ms. Nicholas in the career center for a permission slip.
M-A BEAUTIFICATION DAY â SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2007
There is an M-A beautification day this Saturday, from 9 to 11. Come on down and meet us in the leadership room B-21 and help beautify the school.

The Stanford University School of Education study on student stress and academic engagement (SOS: Stressed-Out Students project) is coming to M-A on September 25! If you would like your student to be included in this important CONFIDENTIAL study, please sign and return a parent Consent form: SOS Survey Consent English or SOS Survey Consent Spanish. Go to www.mabears.org>Downloads>PTA folder>SOS Survey Consent (English or Spanish). Please return completed forms to the Administrative Office at M-A or mail to: Charlene Margot, 1015 Lucky Avenue, Menlo Park, CA 94025.
SOS: Stressed-Out Students is a research and intervention project whose goal is to improve student mental and physical health, engagement in school, and academic and personal integrity in the school community. Dr. Pope's SOS project hopes to implement strategies and activities within a school and community that can help reduce student stress, while encouraging engaged learning that is active, relevant and based on students' individual learning needs.
*Clubs*
All Club leaders listen up! Club Training Day will be on Fri., Sept 21 DURING SCHOOL. If you want to be an â officialâ club this year, you need to stop by B-21 at lunch and sign up.
ROBOTICS
Robotics is recruiting! No experience is needed; whether you like making things, solving problems, driving robots or simply having a great time, this is the club for you. Come see a robot demo and find out more about what we do at an informational meeting THIS FRIDAY at lunch in room C-2.
KEY CLUB
Hey Bears! Are you interested in meeting new people, helping out your community, and learning leadership skills? Itâ s not too late to learn all about what KEY CLUB does and see whether you want to join!!! It will make a difference in your life and being an official member will enhance your college applications and chances to win scholarships. Although you might have missed this weekâ s informational meeting, itâ s not too late. See Mr. Brodkey in room D-10.

Attention Seniors: Saturday Scholar School begins Saturday, September 15th at 9:00 am at the Sequoia Adult School. See your Guidance Advisor immediately if you need a class to get credits for graduation.

GIRL'S TENNIS MARCHES ON
The M-A Girl's Tennis Team upped their PAL League record to 3-0 by thumping the Dons of Aragon, 7-0. Luiza Neto, a Brazilian exchange student in her first Varsity match won the 7th and final match. The Bears take on Hillsdale at M-A on Thursday at 3:30.
The M-A Girlâ s Golf Team beat Menlo School at a match held at Menlo Country Club. The Bears total score was 209 and the Knights' scored 248.
Go Bears. Grrrrr.
*Music*
ALL THAT JAZZ
You will want to have your own copy of the M-A jazz band CD and buy a few as gifts for your jazz loving friends. All proceeds benefit the Menlo-Atherton High School music program.
