LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR OCTOBER 6 SAT
Does your senior need to take the October SAT? Today is the last day to
register without incurring late fees. Hop over to
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/reg.html to sign up.
IS YOUR ATHLETE MISSING SOME ATTIRE?
Buy those PE clothes between 7:15 and 7:40 a.m. on Friday or in the
afternoon until 3:30 p.m on the girls' side of the locker room. If your
student needs financial assistance with clothing, contact Geri Nicholas
in the College and Career Center.
SMILE!
Time is running out for senior yearbook portraits: the deadline is
September 28 for any senior who wants to be included in the yearbook.
YEARBOOKS
It's only September, but you know your student will want a yearbook come
next June. Lock in the lowest price by ordering today (or by October 1)
at www.shop.jostens.com. Students can stop by G7 if they have questions.
FIRE IT UP!
Welcome Back dance will be held Friday, September 28, in the gym quad
from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are available on the green during lunch now.
ALL THAT JAZZ
You will want to have your own copy of the M-A jazz band CD and buy a
few as gifts for your jazz loving friends. All proceeds benefit the
Menlo-Atherton High School music program. The CDs sell for $10 each,
plus an additional $1.50 for postage. Send checks payable to M-A Band
Boosters c/o Perryn Rowland, 341 Linfield Dr, Menlo Park, CA 94025. You
can also email Perryn at perrynkrowland at yahoo.com for more information
or to pick up a copy.
WHAT A TERRIFIC PICNIC!
Thank you everyone for attending the fourth annual Freshman Family
Welcome. The cleanup crew found a few bowls and serving pieces that were
left behind. Pick up your items (they're clean!) in B21. Have a great
year and welcome again to M-A. We are all glad you are here.
FRESHMAN PARENTS: ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE?
Over 70 parents have already volunteered for Challenge Day, but we need
40 more small group leaders to stay with a group of 5 or 6 students from
7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. and facilitate discussions and exercises. Half the
freshmen will go through the program Monday, October 29 and the other
half will participate on Tuesday, October 30. It is a great way to get
involved. There will be an optional one hour training/Q & A session on
Saturday, October 27 (time and room to be announced). We also need
registration helpers on both days from 6:45-8:15 a.m.
Don't pass up the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our
M-A teens! Sign up for your position and choice of day with Betsy at:
betbowe at earthlink.net. Thank you from the Challenge Day Coordinators:
Betsy Bowersox (Hannah 2010) and Teri O'Neel (Danny 2011).
FASHIONISTAS TAKE NOTE!
Save the date for the annual M-A PTA fashion show, scheduled this year
for Saturday, November 10. Three shows include a noon lunch featuring
chicken salad from Menlo Park's Jeffrey's Hamburgers, a 4 p.m. matinee,
and a 7:30 evening show. Tickets will go on sale later this month.
SENIOR MODELS
Any senior that wants to be in the fashion show must attend one of the
two sign up/orientation sessions next week on Tuesday, September 18 or
Wednesday, September 19. These mandatory meetings will take place in
the new gym at 7 p.m. Contact Becky Galvez at BeckyGalvez at comcast.net
with any questions or concerns.

GIRLS' TENNIS
After an undefeated regular season, a quarterfinal finish in the CCS
Playoffs and a league championship last season, the team kicked off the
new season with two convincing victories. On Wednesday, the Bears
played their first match of the year against powerhouse Mt. Tam of Marin
County. The girls picked up where they left off last year, trouncing
the visitors 6-1. On Thursday, they played their first PAL league
match, taking on a tough Burlingame squad. Although the matches were
competitive, the Bears rolled on yet again with a 6-1 decision.
Outstanding play by star players sophomore Marietta Tuionetoa and
senior Marjorie Adams and freshmen Julia Somer and Paige Keating
contributed to the win. The Bears next take on Aragon at Aragon on
Tuesday and Hillsdale at M-A on Thursday. Come out and root on the
Bears as they vie for a second consecutive league championship.
WATER POLO
Come to the pool and cheer for the water polo Bears as they face
arch-rival Menlo School on Wednesday afternoon. As an added bonus, our
snack shack will be open. The whistles start at 3 pm with varsity boys,
JV boys play at 4, varsity girls at 5, and JV girls at 6.
