*Freshman Family Picnic and Dance TONIGHT*

Welcome to Freshman M-A Class of 2011! 

So glad YOU are here! The 6th period Leadership Class looks forward to seeing you and your family this Friday at 6 p.m. for dinner. Then at 7 p.m. the Freshman Dance begins. Tickets for the dance are available at the door for $7.  Look for the parking signs on campus so you will know where to park and see you on the girls' soccer field for dinner.  Bon Appetit!

REMINDER:  SENIOR PORTRAIT DEADLINE 9/28/2007

Time is running out. It's time to get your senior portrait taken. If you want your picture in the yearbook, the deadline to take your senior portrait is September 28th. Seniors who have not taken their portraits by September 28th will NOT be in the yearbook. And, speaking of yearbooks: Yearbooks are on sale now for the lowest price of the year. Prices go up on October 1st. Order yearbooks today at shop.jostens.com. Students can stop by room G7 if they have questions.

TUTORS NEEDED

Is your student an AP student? Mr. G needs your studentâ  s help.  If they would like to sign up as a peer tutor for 3, 4 or 6th period, please have them see Mr. G in room G-9!


Outdoor Ed is HERE!  Does your student want to work with kids and provide an important community service?  They can be a counselor for Outdoor Ed.  Encinal is looking for counselors for early Oct.  Get applications NOW in room B-21.


LOCKERS

The school encourages students to get a locker assigned this year to store heavy books and to keep school materials secure during athletic practice and games. Remind your student to not leave backpacks or any personal possessions unattended.  If your student needs a locker, have them visit the AVP office in the front of the school.

STUDENT STORE

The Grand Opening of the Student Store will be Monday, September 10 at lunch.  Be on the look out for some changes and improvements.  You can now find a variety of school supplies on hand as well as fabulous Spirit Gear such as Bear Wear and Class Shirts!

PE CLOTHES STILL AVAILABLE

Still need PE clothes??  PE clothes can be purchased from Mrs. Wimberly on the girlâ  s side of the locker rooms, but ONLY during select times:

Thurs, Fri & Mon you may buy them from 7:15 to 7:40 am or in the afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.  Those are the ONLY times they are available.  

DANCE INFO

As noted above, the Freshman dance is tonight.  Tickets are available at the door. 


Welcome Back Dance tickets go on sale this Monday, September 10 at lunch in front of B-21!  Only $5 to kick off the school year in hot M-A fashion!  The dance is Friday, September 28 from 7-10 under the stars in the gym quad.  Get ready to "Fire it up!"

TO DANCE OR NOT TO DANCE...THAT IS THE QUESTION...REMEMBER, ATTENDANCE AT MENLO-ATHERTON DANCES IS A PRIVILEGE...

SO...ANY STUDENT WHO HAS SIX OR MORE PERIOD CUTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PURCHASE TICKETS TO THE BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE FROM LEADERSHIP.  THESE STUDENTS MUST BE CLEARED BY THEIR VICE-PRINCIPAL!!

All Club leaders listen up!  Club Training Day will be on Fri., Sept 21, DURING SCHOOL.  If you want to be an official club this year, please stop by B-21 at lunch and sign up.  Parents, please remind your students about clubs and this important info if they are interested in forming a club.


MENLO-ATHERTON JAZZ BAND

CD FOR SALE

The Menlo-Atherton Jazz Band, just back from a successful European tour, has released a professionally recorded CD, shrink-wrapped, with inserts.  You will want to have your own copy and buy a few as gifts for your jazz loving friends.  All proceeds benefit the Menlo-Atherton High School music program. COMPUTER ACADEMY

The Menlo Atherton Computer Academy is seeking 3-5 chaperones to help take a group of students to the Marin Headlands Institute for a fantastic experiential environmental science workshop. The group will leave M-A on Monday 9/10 at approximately 8:30 a.m. We will spend the night and return to M-A on Tuesday 9/11 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Youâ  ll certainly have a great time. We need chaperones to spend the night with us, as it is one of the Marin Headlands Institute's requirements. Please contact Lance Powell for more information at lpowell at seq.org.

OUTREACH CLUB

First Outreach Meeting on Monday, Sept. 10 in the Career Center at lunch. Everyone is welcome!  Starting the year off quickly, the Outreach Club is organizing its first event of the new school year. On Saturday, September 15th, M-A students are volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to help construct houses for low income families in South San Francisco. Peninsula Habitat for Humanity is currently building four three-story houses which will be built completely by volunteers and by the families who have been selected to live in the houses. We still have some space for more volunteers and chaperones are needed so come to the Outreach Meeting on Monday, September 10th or contact Geri Nicholas at gnichola at seq.org or Eric Siegel at Goooooal123 at aol.com.


FRENCH CLUB

Bonjour French Club members!  Our first French Club meeting of the year will be this Friday at lunch in Ms Seaberg's room, E-10.  Anyone interested in joining is welcome to attend as well!

FOOTBALL!  The exciting Menlo-Atherton football team has their first home game this weekend.  Come check out the Bears on Saturday.  Varsity game begins at 2 pm.  Remember, if you have an ID card with a PAL sticker, then itâ  s FREE to get in the gate.


And finally. . . .a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mr. Stuart!!  He is so lucky to get to spend it with all of our new freshmen at the Freshman Family Welcome and Freshman Dance!  We love you, Stuey!
