Winter sports begin this week!
Parents/Guardians - If you will be driving student athletes in your car please complete the Personal Vehicle Use Form http://www.seq.org/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_download/gid,337/Itemid,34/ and turn into Sandy Nelson, in the admin building.
This applies to all sports.
Any Student who would like to participate in winter sports (Basketball, soccer, or wrestling) you must go to the AVP office to pick up your sports packet and have it completed and turned into Ms. Aubrey Orcutt prior to November 1. Fall sports eligibility does not carry over into winter, and so if you were cleared to play a fall sport you will still need to complete a new packet and be cleared for winter sports. If you have any questions regarding sports eligibility, you may visit Ms. Orcutt in the AVP office during brunch, lunch, or after school until 3:45 PM."
Whatâ s a Sports Clearance Form?
A sports clearance form lets the coach know that the athlete has fulfilled the paperwork requirements necessary to play the sport. To receive a form:
_ Pick up paperwork at the administration office
_ Complete liability and behavior contract forms
_ Take Physical Exam form to your doctor for completion(once a year)
_ Purchase a PAL sticker $25 once per year
_ Return all paperwork to the office.
Paperwork must be turned in to the administration office PRIOR to the beginning of that sport
Can Sports Physicals Be Taken at Any Time?
Sports physicals must be completed after June 10 to qualify for the 2005â 2006 season. Fall athletes should make appointments with their physicians early to make sure they are able to get a physical before the first day of practice.
Do I Have to Fill Out Paperwork for Each Sport?
YES
If I play Fall, Winter & Spring that is 3 times I have to get the packet completed?
Correct, however the sports physical forms only need to be completed once. It will be kept on file in the office.
Are There Any Non-Athletic Requirements for Being On a Team?
Yes. Athletes must meet several academic and behavioral standards.
â ¢ Minimum Class Attendance
A student must attend at least 5 classes to participate in any practice or game that day.
â ¢ Minimum Grade Point Average
Every athlete must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average to participate on a team.
â ¢ Drug & Alcohol Policy
Menlo-Atherton has a "no tolerance" drug and alcohol policy. Any student caught drinking or using illegal drugs on any school property will be dropped from his or her team for the remainder of the season.
Can I play on Club and School Teams During the Same Season?
Not if it they are the same sport. Varsity athletes may play only for their school teams during the season. If an athlete plays for both a varsity and club or league team during the varsity season, the school team may be required to forfeit any games that athlete played in. Athletes may, however, be on other teams if they are a different sport from their varsity teams (i.e., varsity football players may play on a club basketball team during the football season) or if the seasons are different (i.e. varsity basketball players may play on club basketball teams during the summer).
