M-A GIRL'S TENNIS BOUND FOR CCS

Only two years after a 1-12 season the Girl's Tennis Team won their second consecutive PAL Championship Team Tournament and with the win have earned an automatic berth in the CCS Playoffs. The 6-1 win over the Panthers of Burlingame, upset winners over Carlmont in the semifinals, was much closer than the score indicates. Burlingame, the most improved team in the league, gave the Bears all they could handle. However, the Bears never lost sight of their goal or the memory of their season two years ago and gutted out the win. Freshman sensation Jordyn Fantuzzi and Swedish exchange student, Mathilda Ekman were the heroes of the day as they won their deciding set to clinch the match for the Bears. The Bears will participate in the PAL Individual Tournament next week before starting the CCS Playoffs the first week of November.

FOOTBALL

The varsity football team cruised to a 50 to 15 victory over Carlmont on Homecoming Saturday. M-A is on top of the PAL Bay Division with a 5 and 0 record.

The defense had another strong outing, collecting a safety and a Nick Dove interception which was caused by Chris Calvarese's deflection. The offense was unstoppable. Troy McCabe passed for two touchdowns, one to Will Latu and one to Sam Knapp. Latu also added two rushing touchdowns to his total. Jamal Wilkins, Bobby Bustos and Vaughn Smith also added to the great offensive output with one rushing touchdown each. Come support your Bears at their last home game this Friday 11/2 at 2:45 against South San Francisco.

We will be honoring our fantastic senior class at halftime.

WATERPOLO

The Polo Bears turned in more great performances this weekend, with all teams playing in different venues. Our Girls Varsity took 2nd place in the MacDonald tournament, beating St Francis 6-5 in an exciting triple-overtime match before falling to SHP in the championship game. More great competition lies ahead in the PAL tournament this weekend!

With fabulous weather and cheering fans, the Polo Bears enjoyed their last regular season home games with a clean sweep against Burlingame. In the opening match, the Burlingame Boys Varsity proved to be tougher than expected, but the Bears were able to squeak out a 6-5 victory when Matt Bogott scored back-to-back goals in the last 2 minutes of the game. The Boys JV and Girls JV teams won easily by double-digit margins, ending their seasons undefeated. A special CONGRATULATIONS goes to Coach Chris Rubin and his Girls Varsity team who went undefeated in league play for the first time in M-A history!!! Our Polo Bears have more games this weekend and will be well-prepared for the PAL championships next week.

SOCCER

Reminder Boys soccer tryouts start on THURSDAY of THIS WEEK! Players without a 7th period please come to the baseball field at 2 pm. Players with a 7th, please report at 3:40. You must bring your yellow slip to participate in tryouts.

BASKETBALL

Anyone interested in playing boys frosh/soph basketball must attend a mandatory meeting on Tuesday Oct 30 at lunch in the athletic weight room. Paper work has to be in by Nov 1st to have a try out.

Attention all athletes:

Winter sports begin this week!

Anyone who would like to participate in winter sports (Basketball, soccer, or wrestling) you must go to the AVP office to pick up your sports packet and have it completed and turned into Ms. Aubrey Orcutt prior to November 1. Fall sports eligibility does not carry over into winter, and so if you were cleared to play a fall sport you will still need to complete a new packet and be cleared for winter sports. If you have any questions regarding sports eligibility, you may visit Ms. Orcutt in the AVP office during brunch, lunch, or after school until 3:45 PM."

GO BEARS! Grrrrr.
