PLANNING AHEAD TO PAY FOR COLLEGE 

M-A Parent Education - Tuesday, October 30, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the
Menlo-Atherton Library

Do not miss this outstanding event for freshman, sophomore, and junior
parents! Join M-A college advisor Alice Kleeman and presenters from
EdFund, CitiBank and Bellarmine College Prep for an information-packed
evening on planning ahead to pay for college.  Simultaneous Spanish
translation will be provided. Refreshments offered; Q & A at the end of
the program.

 

Presenters will review a timeline of financial aid, forms for financial
aid (including merit aid), the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and
how colleges use it, online financial-aid calculators and how to use
them, impacts on aid (including taxes, savings, 529 plans, Coverdells,
home equity, etc.), and four-year financing and how financial-aid
packages can change.  Refreshments offered in the Library foyer. Please
join us for this important, informative evening! 

 

(Note that Alice Kleeman will offer a professional presentation on

*Athletics*

Waterpolo

The Varsity Boys showed excellent offensive and defensive teamwork as
they ended this weekend's North-South tournament with another
double-overtime nail-biter against the East Bay's De La Salle. Down by 2
going into the 4th quarter, Kevin Lane added 2 to take the Bears into
the first overtime, and Richard Hong came through with a backhand shot
over the goalie's head to win in sudden death with a final score of 9-8.
Matt Bogott was the highest scoring Bear with a total of 14 goals in the
4-game tournament, and goalie Alex Popp, who averages 10 saves per game,
made countless critical saves.  The Polo Bears host Burlingame in their
last game of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon, starting at 2pm.
Come to the pool and join the celebration as the teams wrap up their
very successful seasons and we recognize our Senior class athletes, who
are all terrific both in and out of the water!  Go Bears!  

Golf

Last Thursday Menlo-Atherton High School Girls Golf Team lost a tough
match to Burlingame High School, 185 to 211.  Low score for M-A was Mele
Latu with a 43.  This match concluded the regular season and this week
M-A will start the PAL playoffs.  Congratulations to Mele Latu, Amrita
Sehgal, Keiko Wolff, Grace Goldberg, Rachel Verity, and Kendall Mongird
for making the playoff team.  Good luck, Bears!

Football

The varsity football team had an awesome defensive performance Friday
night against Burlingame and came away with a 37 to 3 victory, leaving
them with a 5-0 league record.  The defense totally shut down the
Burlingame offense, holding them to only 4 offensive yards for the
entire game.  Nick Dove's interception led to M-A's first score, a field
goal by Lee Bader.  After a Burlingame field goal, the rest of the game
was all M-A.  Troy McCabe connected with Russell Perkins and Sam Knapp
for touchdowns and Will Latu ran the ball in for two more touchdowns.
Late in the game, Turner Baty connected with David McLaughlin for the
last touchdown of the night.  Come out and support your Bears this
Saturday at 2:00 against Carlmont for the Homecoming game.  Mark your
calendars for the last home game of the year November 2 at 2:45 against
South San Francisco because we will be honoring our 28 fabulous seniors
at halftime.

Tennis

BEARS PREP FOR TENNIS PAL PLAYOFFS

Hampered by injuries and illness, the M-A Girl's Tennis Team lost to
Menlo and with it a chance to win the league.  However, they are in
second place and the top seed for the PAL Playoffs.  The winner of the
playoffs advances to CCS.  The Bears tuned up for the PAL's by crushing
the 'Cats of Woodside, 7-0 on Wednesday.  The Bears final league match
is Tuesday against Mills.  The top two players, Marietta Tuionetoa and
Marjorie Adams remain undefeated this season.  

ATHLETIC PHYSICAL EXAMS

BAK Physical Therapy in Menlo Park is offering low cost sports physicals
to all winter or spring athletes. The cost is only $20 (all types of
payment accepted) and no appointment is needed. Just show up at 705 Oak
Grove Ave on Thursday Oct. 25th between 6:00-7:30pm. Any questions call
