M-A IS GOING GREEN!
Environmental tidbit for today: Eight out of ten plastic water bottles are either not recycled or somehow end up in the trash, losing plastic and taking up landfill space. Bears, to prevent this you can buy your very own â M-A is going greenâ Nalgene water bottle in the student store next week! There will be free filtered water in the leadership room all year for those who purchase one! Join the trend. All the cool Bears are doing it!
LOCK UP YOUR VALUABLES
Please remind your student to take the following advice. This is a reminder to all students not to leave backpacks and valuables unattended. Also, all items left in the locker room must be placed in a locker and locked. Hall lockers are available in the AVP office and PE lockers are available from your PE teacher. Be smart and lock it up.
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM PERFORMANCE
Do you love the great outdoors and Shakespeare? Well now you can have both as M-A's fabulous drama students present "A Midsummer Night's Dream" outdoors in the F-Wing amphitheater. There will be heaters and a tent to ward off the fall chill. Performances are Thursday, October 18 at 7PM, Friday October 19 at 7PM, Saturday October 20th at 2PM and 7PM and an encore performance on Friday October 26th at 7PM. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $8 for adults. Tickets are available for sale on the Green during lunch and in M-2 with Mr. Maier. Come on out and support the arts during these times of transition.

SHOW YOUR BEAR PRIDE FOR HOMECOMING
Buying Bear Wear has never been easier or more convenient! When visiting the M-A campus, stop by the Student Store located between B-20 and B-21 facing Middlefield Road. We are open every day at lunch and we accept cash or checks made out to M-A Student Store. Want to shop from the convenience of your own home? Now, you can buy almost any Bear Wear that your Menlo-Atherton heart desires with 10% of the proceeds coming directly back to M-A.
You may get to our on-line store site one of two ways:
1. The easiest is to log onto www.mabears.org and pull down the ** Student** button to find ** Bear Wear Online.** That will lead you to click on the link which will take you off of our secure school website and take you directly to our area at Prep Sportswear.
2. You may also log directly into the website at http://www.prepsportswear.com/. From this point, select our state: California. Then, city: Atherton. Finally, our wonderful school: Menlo-Atherton High.
The only thing left to do is start SHOPPING!
HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE: PARENT HELP NEEDED
The PTA is forming a new committee to help the student Outreach Club with their Holiday Gift Drive. This is a great opportunity to work closely with motivated, service-oriented students and to support our community too. We need two chairs to help the students manage the logistics of purchasing and delivering gifts for 200 local children. Outreach Club meetings are Mondays at lunch. If you are interested in this new PTA Committee, please contact Pam Stoner, pastoner at sbcglobal.net, or Julie Brody, julie at brodyfamily.net.

Tennis
GIRL'S TENNIS READIES FOR FINAL SHOWDOWN WITH MENLO. The Bears swept Hillsdale 7-0 and Carlmont 6-1 in league play last week in preparation for their final match with Menlo. The Bears lost a squeaker 4-3 in the first match at Menlo, but are confident they can pull the upset at M-A on Tuesday. Menlo has never lost a PAL match since they joined the league. Come out Tuesday at 3:30 and watch the Bears make history!!
Waterpolo
The Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls, and JV Girls Water Polo teams swept Aragon, showing great teamwork as they easily maneuvered around the Dons in all their games. The JV Boys had a bye, but great competition lies ahead for them at this weekend's Monta Vista tournament. Varsity Girls, undefeated in the league, travel to Modesto to play in the Western States Water Polo Tournament. Congratulations to our Varsity Girls' Waterpolo team for a fantastic job at Westerns this weekend in the Central Valley. The ladies placed 12th in the State out of 48 teams! Awesome job, ladies! They also became TV stars by being invited to be on Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area which aired last night! Great job, Lady Bears!
Football
The varsity football team enjoyed a big victory over Menlo Saturday 34 - 21. M-A remains in first place in the PAL with a 5 - 1 record. The defense came up big, forcing several turnovers, including one interception each for Malakai Mataele and Lee Bader. The quarterback, Troy McCabe, was very productive, throwing TD passes to Raymond Vainokolo, Steve DiSibio and Sam Knapp. Jamal Wilkins rushed for about 130 yards and Will Latu added two more rushing touchdowns to his resume. Come cheer on the Bears at their next game, a Friday Night Lights game at 7:00 at Burlingame High School.
Volleyball
Congrats to the M-A varsity girls volleyball team for beating Mills in 3 games. Diane Seely with 11 kills , Arielle McKee with 10 kills and Aex Warner with 9 kills, all played a great game at the net, with the help of great setting from Sophia Cornew and the great passes from Janelle Eastman and Audrey Bullwinkel. As the volleyball season comes to a close, don't miss the chance to see this exciting fast-paced game! Come support the volleyball girls this Thursday, Oct. 18th, as they take on rival Sequoia High School! JV plays at 3:15, Varsity at 4:30.
Soccer
There is a mandatory meeting for anyone who wants to play boyâ s soccer this Wednesday at 11:30 in room G-8.
Attention All Athletes â Winter sports packages due.
Anyone who would like to participate in winter sports (Basketball, soccer, or wrestling) you must go to the AVP office to pick up your sports packet and have it completed and turned into Ms. Aubrey Orcutt prior to November 1. Fall sports eligibility does not carry over into winter, and so if you were cleared to play a fall sport you will still need to complete a new packet and be cleared for winter sports. If you have any questions regarding sports eligibility, you may visit Ms. Orcutt in the AVP office during brunch, lunch, or after school until 3:45 PM."
GO BEARS!
Grrrrr.
