SOCCER
Congratulations to the frosh/soph girls soccer team for staying undefeated with a 2-2 tie against the VARSITY squad of summit prep last Friday. Goals were scored by Megan Nash and Amy Young, and outstanding defense by sweeper Julia Robinson secured the tie.
WATERPOLO WINS IN A BIG WAY
The Polo Bears made M-A history in a big way - the Boys and Girls teams didn't just win the CCS Division I championships, they did it with a sweep!!! Coaches Chris Rubin and Lara Gill were the first to be dunked, when the Girls team delivered a decisive 10-5 victory over Leland. Their overpowering offense was led by Rebecca Dorst with 4 goals including a spectacular backhand shot. Vanessa Lane added 3, Morgan Leech 2, and team captain Elise Delagnes capped off her final Bear season with a single. The Boys 3-2 match against Paly was a true defensive battle, with 15 saves by Alex Popp, who showed once more why he deserved being named PAL's Most Valuable Goalkeeper. Matt Garlock was quick in the field, making 5 of their 12 steals to frustrate the Paly offense. Paly tried in vain to stop leading Bear scorer Matt Bogott as he found the net twice, and then Kevin Lane successfully outfoxed Paly's goalkeeper with another winning goal. Coaches Johnny Bega and Bruce Hicks accepted their trophy dripping wet, to the sounds of resounding cheers from the ecstatic Bears fans. Thank you to all M-A staff and classmates and friends who came to cheer and support our terrific waterpolo teams in this a-M-A-zing season! GO BEARS!!!
FOOTBALL
Are you ready for some Thanksgiving football? The varsity football team advanced to the second round of the CCS playoffs with their victory over Homestead 38 to 17. The defense once again held strong and Russell Perkins came up with an interception late in the game. Troy McCabe threw for four touchdowns, one each to Jamal Wilkins, Matt Mosher, Sam Knapp and Raymond Vainikolo. Bobby Bustos barreled in for M-A's lone rushing touchdown and Eric Stanske added to the scoring fest with a field goal. Come cheer on your Bears as they take on powerhouse Aragon this Friday at 7:00 at Foothill College.
All Frosh/Soph Football players need to come to the library during lunch on Tuesday to cast their votes for Most Valuable, Most Improved and Most Inspirational Players on the Frosh/Soph team. Please make sure you stop by and place your votes on Tuesday during lunch in the M-A Library.
Go BEARS!! Grrrrr.
