CONGRATULATIONS TO COACH CRAIG CARSON

The San Mateo County Times recognized our recently retired coach as the
Varsity Boys Basketball Coach of the Year. He was chosen not only
because of the big NorCal upset over Richmond, but because of his "fine
overall season (23-11)."

SENIOR PARENTS: TIME TO ORDER CAPS AND GOWNS

Make sure your senior picks up cap and gown information in B-21. All
graduation and prom information is available online at www.mabears.org.

financial aid. See Geri Nicholas in the office.

The free session is open to the public and features speakers Madeline
Levine (author of The Price of Privilege) and Wendy Mogel (author of The
Blessing of a Skinned Knee),

PRINCESS PROJECT: DRESS DRIVE FOR FORMALS

Are your daughters' old prom dresses taking up space in their closets
(or on their floors and chairs)? Help make another girl's prom night
special by donating unwanted dresses to the first annual Princess
Project Dress Drive. Project Princess allows underprivileged girls to
get their prom dress for free. Bring dresses to B-21 anytime between May
14 and May 25.

BIG BEAR RUN

Thank you to everyone who came on Sunday to help with the Big Bear Run.
Thank you to the runners and walkers.

Your registration helps support all of the Athletic Programs at
Menlo-Atherton.

BASEBALL

The varsity defeated Menlo High school with a walk off grand slam from
Matt Mosher on Friday. The table was set with Daniel Johnston hitting a
three run home run in the fourth and then intentionally walked in the
bottom of the seventh. Matt Mosher was subbed back in only to hit a walk
off home run to beat the third place Menlo Vikings.

The team will be playing Mills high school today at 3:15 here at M-A.
M-A and Mills are battling for a spot at CCS playoffs. Come out and
support our team.

GOLF

Despite cold, wet weather at Crystal Springs Golf Course, our Bears
shined at the PAL Individual Golf Championship Finals on Thursday, May
3, bringing home 3 medals out of a field of 24 finalists. Placing 7th
was Nick Chladek following 2 impressive rounds for the 2 day playoffs
with 80 & 79. Jake Hall Toy held on strong and placed 5th, posting 71
& 84 at Shoreline and Crystal. Nick Sako held on to his 1st place
league standing by winning the PAL Individual Championship with an even
par 72 after his 71 round at Shoreline, a full 9 strokes ahead of the
2nd Place Medalist for the 2 days of this individual tournament. As a
team, the Bears advance to CCS Regional Playoffs today at Rancho Canada
in Carmel Valley.

LACROSSE

The girls varsity celebrated Senior Day on Friday with a 20-7 victory
over Woodside to complete a perfect 14-0 PAL season. The seniors put on
quite a show, accounting for 16 of M-A's 20 goals. Kayla Ushman let the
attack with 4 goals and 9 assists. Sam Bassin had 4 goals, Tenley Breen
added 3, Katie Fanelli had 2, as did Brooke Keating. MacKenzie Rodgers
had 1 goal and 1 assist. Rounding out the scoring was Sarah Vallarino,
Adrian Holland, Emma Neville, and Margho Dunahoo-Kirsch, each finding
the back of the net once. Seniors Megan Power and Emily Wright
continued to provide leadership on defense.

M-A opens PAL tournament play on Tuesday, hosting a first round game at
Coach Parks Field vs Gunn. Come out and cheer on the girls.

The JV girls capped an undefeated season, with a 14-1 victory over Mercy
at Coach Parks Field Friday evening. Taylor "T-dog" Wentz led the goal
parade with her first hat trick (3 goals), as Alex "Goals McGhee"
Fanelli, Chloe Peters and Ari Sanchez scored two a piece, and Caroline
Edwards, Kendall Eder and Emily Van Rheenan pitched in with one goal
each. Raissa Masket was once again, the "Queen of the Crease", as her
stellar goalie play as been a Bear staple this season. The Bears have
not only finished the season undefeated, they have displayed positive
moral character all year. The future is bright for Girl's Lacrosse at
M-A thanks to the wonderful teaching and leadership of Coach Raena
Saddler and Assistant Coach Jessie Ansari.

SOFTBALL

Menlo-Atherton avenged an earlier loss this week to San Mateo by winning
the rematch with a 4-1 score. Freshman Pitcher Tami Vujovich tossed a
complete game 2-hitter with eight strikeouts and only one walk. The
game winning hit was delivered by Senior Ellen Knapp in the 6th inning
with a bases clearing double and 3 RBIs that secured the victory for
M-A. Sophomore Olivia Vagelos and freshman Tami Vujovich each had 2
hits in the game. M-A record is now 11-10 overall and 7-5 in league
play. Menlo-Atherton has moved back into a 3rd place tie with San Mateo
with this victory.

TENNIS

The boys' season ended when the Bears met #4 seed Bellarmine in the
second round of the newly expanded CCS Playoffs. The Bells were as good
as advertised, as they were loaded from top to bottom and are definite
contenders for the CCS title. M-A did salvage some pride when Bear #1,
soph George Horowitz upset Bellarmine's top player in 3 grueling sets.
With the loss of only 2 seniors, the Bears are looking to go to CCS for
a third consecutive year in '08 and improve upon their performance this
year.
