GRAD NIGHT NOTES
The decorations committee for Grad Night 2007 needs white, clear lights on
cords (Christmas tree lights). If you can loan yours, please send them with
your student to the collection box in the school office.
Also, make sure that your senior has purchased Grad Night 2007 tickets for
the PTA-sponsored, all-night, safe & sober party that will take place on the
night of Graduation. Ticket requests are available in English and Spanish in
the school office, and must be signed by parents and accompanied by a check
for $100.00 payable to M-A Grad Night 2007. Scholarships are available;
students should speak to Geri Nicholas.
JUNIOR PARENTS' GUIDANCE NIGHT WITH KAREN RAMIREZ
The meeting, scheduled for Monday, April 23 from 7-8 p.m in the M-A library
features a jam-packed 60 minute meeting about senior year at M-A. Karen
Ramirez, lead guidance counselor, will speak on school and district
graduation completion requirements. Hear about PTA-sponsored events such as
the annual October Fashion Show and Grad Night celebration in June. This
meeting gives you an overview of the year to come. (Note that this is not a
college planning night.) Please RSVP to PTA Junior Parents' Night co-chairs
Charlene Margot at charlenemargot at yahoo.com or Stacia Weisenfluh at
sweisenfluh at covad.net.

FORE!
The 3rd Annual M-A Bears Golf Classic is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at
Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose. All golfers at any level are welcome to
participate, enjoy a day of fun, and support the Menlo-Atherton Boys Golf
Teams. Contact tournament director Norm Hall at putt4doe at gmail.com for more
info.
BADMINTON
Your varsity badminton Bears are beginning to make their mark on the Bay
Division. M-A got its second straight win yesterday -- a 10-5 victory over
tough El Camino. A sweep of girl's Doubles by Flo & Erica, Nora & Amrita,
and Ana & Jessie was the key to success. Alyssa Tomijima gave M-A its first
girl's singles victory of the season.
TENNIS
The boys will play anyone, anytime, anywhere, most recently traveling to San
Francisco to take on the Cardinal of famed Lowell High School. The Bears
left the City with a hard fought 6-1 win and a lot of much needed match play
experience.
Tuesday, on a blistery, gusty day, the Bears took on their chief rival for
second place in the PAL, Burlingame at M-A. Despite losing badly to
Burlingame in their previous match, the Bears surprisingly seemed to have
the match well in hand. However, the conditions, some bad breaks and
inexperience left the Netters with a 4-3 loss. The good news is that the
match could have gone either way and the Bears are confident they will take
them in the PAL Playoffs!
The Bears next meet Gunn in a rematch of last years first round CCS playoff
match, won by the Bears in a historic upset. Thursday, the Bears take on
Aragon at M-A in the newly refurbished tennis facility.
GOLF
The Varsity golf team suffered their first loss, to Menlo School, by one
stroke on Tuesday, Mar. 27 at Sharon Heights by a team score of 204 to
Menlo's 203. Even so, there was still excellent scoring by Nick Sako (38)
and Jake Hall Toy (39).
In a quick comeback, they defeated Burlingame tonight by a team score of 187
to 194 on a 9 hole, par 36 course at Burlingame Country Club. This was
truly a team effort, with Nick Sako and Jake Hall Toy each shooting 1 under
par 35, followed closely by Ben Jackson and Elliot Hume, each shooting 1
over par 37. Note to the novices....golf matches are played by 6 team
members, with the 5 lowest scores counting towards the match score. The
Bears are now 5-1 in league play and will face Sequoia next Tuesday, April
3.
LACROSSE
Once again, the girls' JV scores a victory with an 11-8 final over Leland on
March 27th. Alex Fanelli scored 4 goals, Monika Decker scored 2, Monserrat
Benavides also scored 2 and Kendall Eder, Allie Foraker and Julia Schroeder
each scored 1.
In a match postponed from last week, the girls varsity lacrosse team
traveled to San Jose and returned with an 8 - 4 victory over Pioneer. This
win improved their league record to 5 - 0 (7 - 1 overall). Leading the M-A
attack were Seniors Kayla Ushman (3 goals and 1 assist) and Sam Bassin (2
goals and 1 assist), and Sophomores Adrian Holland (2 goals) and Casey
Burnett (1 goal). Junior netminder Julia Robinson had another outstanding
game, continually turning away point-blank shots. The defense limited
Pioneer to only 2 goals in each half, with Megan Power constantly
frustrating Pioneer's leading scorer. The girls are in action next on Friday
vs Gunn at Coach Parks Field.
Boys' varsity lacrosse dominated the Woodside Wildcats Wednesday afternoon
to defeat them 14-4. David McLaughlin delivered 4 goals, Mark Gregory
drilled 3, Will Hyrne and David Merrill made 2 each, and Chris Bachler,
Charlie Fitz and Kevin Flaherty each scored a goal. Goalies Scott Sterling
had 9 saves and Bo Dunnahoo-Kirsch had 1 save.
JV boys also played on Wednesday afternoon. Final score was M-A 15, Woodside
0. Scoring for the Bears: Kevin Burks and Jack Kinne with 3 goals each,
Zander Rohn, Aaron Wiener, and Jeff Sklarin with 2 goals each, and scoring
one goal piece: Joel Feier, Hassan Saad, and Matthew Trautman. Goalie Kevin
Sheridan played the first half & had 3 saves, while goalie Sam Weber played
the second half and did not allow any goals.
The Bears take on Leland at M-A next Monday.
SOFTBALL
The varsity team won its second league game 11-1 against South San
Francisco. They are currently 2-1 in League Play and 6-6 overall. Setting
the pace was Emily McPhearson with 2 hits and 2 RBI, as well as Sarah Black
with 2 hits and Olivia Vagelos with 3 hits . Pitcher Tami Vujovich hurled 6
innings of 2 hit balls with 12 strikeouts and 2 walks. M-A defense turned in
some excellent defense plays to hold SSF to 1 run.
