WAKE UP!
National Sleep Awareness Week, March 5-11, coincides with the return to Day=
light Saving Time, as clocks "spring forward" at 2:00 a.m. on March 11. He=
lp your kids get enough sleep so they can arrive at school awake and alert =
on March 6, the day all students hear presentations from Stanford students =
enrolled in William Dement's Sleep and Dreams course. More than 100 Stanfor=
d students will be on campus to teach our kids the most important facts abo=

SUMMER IS ON THE WAY
I know, it's hard to believe when you look outdoors, but it is time to orde=
r your students' summer reading books. Your students should have received =
reading lists and order forms from their English teachers; you can also fin=
d the form in the March Trivocis or download it from www.mabears.org. Compl=
ete the forms and return them to teachers by Friday, March 23. Students a=
re required to read these books and will need them for assignments in Engli=

GIRLS AND PROMS
Do you know any junior or senior girls (your daughters, or your children's =
friends) who are worried about prom expenses? Let them know about the Princ=
ess Project event that provides a free dress and accessories to promgoers. =
The event is scheduled for March 8, so urge them to go see Jenna Carson im=
mediately. =
PRINCESS PROJECT
And even if you don't know any girls who need prom clothes, you can help by=
driving our own princesses to San Jose on Thursday, March 8 from about 2 p=
.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a shopping experience unlike any you have ever ex=
perienced, and you will not want to miss it. Please contact Jenna Carson a=

DANCE TEAM SHOW
Don't miss the fourth annual M-A Dance Team Show on March 9 at 6:30 pm in t=
he practice gym. Students can buy tickets from any dance team member for $=
5 or at the door for $7; adult tickets cost $8. Last year, this event sold=
out, so best to get your tickets ahead of time.
IF YOU THINK YOU BOUGHT A YEARBOOK AT ARENA CHECK-IN...
...you may want to check your records. Yearbook did NOT have a booth at ar=
ena check in this past August, so you may be recalling purchases made in pr=
ior years. Fortunately, it is not too late (yet). Get a copy for $70 by d=

checks will be accepted after that date. =
EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS IN MATH AND SCIENCE
Alice Kleeman recommends this conference for girls in grades 6-12 and inter=
ested adults. It will be held at Skyline College in San Bruno on Saturday,=
March 17 from 8:15 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. The cost of $10 includes snack, lun=

FIRST ANNUAL BAY AREA GAP YEAR FAIR
A gap year gives high school graduates an opportunity for personal growth, =
potentially leading to clearer direction and greater motivation for college=
or whatever path the student pursues. The gap year may include travel, cu=
ltural immersion, directed study, service or conservation projects, interns=
hip opportunities, and more. The conference will be held at Albany High Sc=

ENGINEERING OPEN HOUSE
Twice a year, San Jose State holds an excellent engineering open house. Ev=
en if your students are not interested in attending San Jose State, they ca=
n explore varied engineering fields and see incredible student projects, pe=
rhaps learning which branch of engineering is most tempting. The event wil=
l take place on Saturday, April 21, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Registration i=

BASKETBALL =
Girls' basketball fell to St. Francis on Tuesday night after a great battle=
and some outstanding performances. Congratulations to the girls on anothe=
r season that included winning PAL and making it as far as the semifinals. =
Boys' basketball is still on a roll! After a tight first half, the bears c=
ame out strong in the second to earn their third victory over Mills. The b=
oys will compete for the CCS Division 2 Championship Title tomorrow Friday =
night vs. Mitty at 8:30 at Santa Clara University. There will be a bus lea=
ving M-A at 7 p.m. for students who want to go to the game. Students must s=

The 3rd Annual M-A Bears Golf Classic is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 a=
t Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose. All golfers at any level are welcome=
to participate, enjoy a day of fun, and support the Menlo-Atherton Boys Go=

This week, the M-A Boys Golf team weathered two days of torrential downpour=
at Sharon Heights Golf Course and racked up two consecutive wins. Nick Sa=
ko led the match against Mitty on Monday with a 36, for a team score of 207=
vs. Mitty's 217. On Tuesday, Jake Hall Toy led the Bears to a 202 vs. 216=
season opening victory over Carlmont with an impressive 9 hole round of 37=
. The varsity team is now 3-0 in non-league play and 1-0 in PAL.
Our JV players also held their own, placing third in a tournament at Poplar=
Creek yesterday against Carlmont, Menlo, and Burlingame. The tournament m=
edalist (lowest scorer) was M-A's own sophomore Brian Jordan with a 41. Al=
so scoring for M-A was Jack Pine with 47, Marshall Glass with 49, Clark For=
saith with 52 and Britton Gerber with 54.

Tryouts tonight will be open to all athletes. We may or may not have tryou=
ts tomorrow. All tryouts are held from 7-9 p.m. in the old gym. Note that=
