HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT'S HAPPENING (READ eNotes FOR MORE INFO)
January 17: Technology exam
January 26: Deadline for sports packets
February 20, 22: Senior Challenge Day
February 23: Winter formal
IS YOUR STUDENT PLANNING TO PLAY A SPORT IN THE SPRING?
All student athletes need to submit their sports packets by Friday, January 26. No exceptions! Tryouts for spring sports begin on Monday, January 29, and are open only to students who have completed and turned in their packets.
Note: all athletes must have medical clearance forms signed by their doctors. This is often the hardest form to complete, as it usually entails a trip to the doctor and perhaps a checkup. So if your student has not had a physical within the last year, make that appointment pronto and avoid a last minute heartbreak.
QUIZ BOWLERS ROLL TO VICTORY
Congratulations to the varsity Quiz Bowl team of Tom Kozlowski, Patrick Leugers, and Robbie Eaton. On Saturday, they clobbered Carlmont 310-150 to advance to the third round of the televised show Bay Area Quiz Kids.
TECHNOLOGY EXAM
Has your student passed the required Technology Exam? The next exam will be administered on Wednesday, January 17 at 1:55 pm
JUNIOR BONDING
Junior leadership is sponsoring the very first night just for juniors this Friday, January 19, from 6-7:30 p.m. The event is free and includes hotdogs, hamburgers, and many fun activities.
2007 YEARBOOKS
January 19 will be here soon, so order your yearbook before prices increase. Yearbook order forms are available on line at the M-A website. You can either download an order form or pay with a credit card on line! You can also go directly to Jostens at http://shop.jostens.com/customer.asp?CID=130520&mscssid=FWVFBWF2SGP99GVL477PHM5RULSUAMH1 (be careful if you copy/paste the foregoing into your browser--some of the letters may drop off the end and will have to be manually appended). Price for the yearbook is $65 until January 19.
If you used a check to pay for your yearbook, please keep your returned check. This is the only proof of your order and your only receipt. You can also email M-A yearbook at ma_yearbook at yahoo.com and ask if your order has gone through.
ROBOTICS
The robotics competition for 2007, Rack and Roll, has begun. The nationally-award winning M-A team invites interested families to attend our next parent meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 20 in room S-1 at 9 a.m. Students curious about robotics can find out more by attending the Friday lunch meetings in Sean Ward's classroom, C-4.
WIILLY WONKA WINTER FORMAL
Save the date for the winter formal: February 23. Tickets go on sale for PAL students on January 22 through January 26. Toil for Tickets is available for students who want to earn their winter formal tickets. They need to sign up with Mrs. Todd in B-20. Each hour of work for a staff member outside class hours earns a $10 credit. Students should not let the lack of dollars stand in the way of dancing the night away.
DARFUR: YOU CAN HELP
Come to an informational gathering about helping the victims in Darfur on Friday, January 26 in the J building. Stanford students will be discussing the issues, and there will be a fundraising raffle with awesome prizes and proceeds aiding Darfur victims.
FINISH STRONG: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We invite all parents to donate a few hours to support the senior class's special challenge event, Finish Strong, scheduled for Tuesday, February 20 and Thursday, February 22 from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. With your help leading small groups or working on event logistics, we can make a real difference in the lives of our own young adults. Choose the day you would like to help, plan to attend a training session on Saturday, February 10 from 9 to 10 a.m., and email Margie Lawrence at mlawrence at mppc.org, Judy Hood at summerhood at sbcglobal.net, or Stacy Fredericksen at sfisherfred at yahoo.com to get more info or sign up.
CASH NOT REQUIRED: BREAKFAST AND LUNCH JUST GOT EASIER
New! Open a prepaid food service account of $50 or more and receive a 10% bonus--that's $5 free. How? Write a check for the amount you wish to prepay and send it with your student to give to any Expressway attendant before school or mail it to SUHSD Food Services 480 James Avenue Redwood City, CA 94062.
Be sure to include your student's ID number on the check. If the check is for more than one student, indicate each student's ID and the amount per student. Checks should be payable to SUHSD Food Services.
After receiving the check, Food Services will mail a PIN to your home address. The student simply enters the PIN at any food kiosk to access the money in the account. Questions? Call 369-1411 extension 2590.
WANTED: OLD COMPUTERS*
Working or not, for deserving M-A students. If your family or your business has computers to donate, please contact Sue Kayton kayton at alum.mit.edu, 650-853-1711
