QUIZ BOWL CONGRATS

Congratulations to the Quiz Bowl team - Tom Kozlowski, Patrick Leugers, Rob=
bie Eaton, who went 3-1 against Menlo, Gunn and Harker in the second round =
of the Bay Area Academic League, and will advance to the third round of com=
petition.  All students are invited to join the team. =


DASH TO THE FINISH

Whether or not your child is a senior, we need your help with the senior cl=
ass's special challenge event, Finish Strong, scheduled for Tuesday, Februa=
ry 20 and Thursday, February 22 from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.  With your help le=
ading small groups, we can make a real difference in the lives of our own y=
oung adults. We also need assistance with logistics, especially morning reg=
istration (6:50 a.m.-8 a.m. - you can still get to work on time) or lunch (=
10 a.m. to noon).  You can volunteer for either or both days, and if you wo=
uld like to lead a group, we ask that you also attend a training session on=
 Saturday, February 10 from 9 to 10 a.m.  Email Margie Lawrence at mlawrenc=

ROSE-GRAMS FOR YOUR STUDENTS

This Valentine's Day, send roses to your students and help the AVID (Advanc=
ement Via Individual Determination) student program at the same time.  To o=
rder a Rose-Gram, list your student(s)' name(s), fourth period teacher, and=
 a brief message, and place your request, with payment, in Rachel Andres' m=
ailbox in the main office. You can also mail an order and payment to her at=
 the high school (555 Middlefield Rd. Atherton, CA 94027). Rose-Gram orders=
 received by Friday, February 2 are $3 per flower, orders received by Frida=
y, February 9 are $4 per flower, and orders received Monday, February 12 or=

GETTING READY FOR COLLEGE 101

Your sophomores, juniors, and seniors may want to attend the Skyline Colleg=
e workshops on Saturday, February 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Workshops will =
focus on paying for college, writing personal statements for college applic=
ations, choosing a career path, ensuring college success, and more. Univers=
ity representatives will be present to answer questions.  The cost is $12 f=
or preregistered students, $15 at the door; the fee includes lunch and mate=
rials.  Tell your students to stop by the guidance counselors' office or ca=
reer center for more information.

STRESSED OUT STUDENTS (AND PARENTS)

The M-A PTA invites you to attend an evening with Denise Pope, founder of S=
tanford University's SOS (Stressed Out Students) project, on February 12 at=
 7 p.m. in the J building.  She will be joined by a panel of M-A students t=
o discuss the SOS project, the effects of stress on students, and the ways =
in which we can work to help our students deal with pressure.  You will als=

RAISING TEENS IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

Having a tough time with your not-so-wee one? Help is here!  The San Mateo =
County Sheriff's Diversion Program in collaboration with San Mateo County M=
ental Health Services is sponsoring at 10-week class that will help you hel=
p your children achieve success.  Learn how to create a positive discipline=
 structure, reduce family conflict, improve school attendance, and prevent =
substance abuse or gang involvement.  Class begins Thursday, February 22 an=
d will meet from 6-9 p.m. at 1390 El Camino Real in San Carlos.  To learn m=

WIILLY WONKA WINTER FORMAL

Save the date for the winter formal: February 23.  Tickets are $30 for sing=
les, $50 for couples, and are on sale at lunch outside B-21.   Toil for Tic=
kets is available for students who want to earn their winter formal tickets=
.  They need to sign up with Mrs. Todd in B-20.  Each hour of work for a st=
aff member outside class hours earns a $10 credit.  Students should not let=
 the lack of dollars stand in the way of dancing the night away.

This is your opportunity for a casual Q&A with counselor Alice Kleeman.  We=

Congratulations to the frosh/soph girls' soccer team for a well played game=
 against #1 ranked Burlingame yesterday. Gina Giarmo scored the sole goal a=
nd freshman sweeper Elena Kolorova kept the game scoreless during the first=
 half.  Burlingame won 2-1.  The last game of the season is at home tomorro=
w against Woodside.  Come out and support our team.
