FINISH STRONG: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We invite all parents to donate a few hours to support the senior class's s=
pecial challenge event, Finish Strong, scheduled for Tuesday, February 20 a=
nd Thursday, February 22 from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.  With your help leading s=
mall groups or working on event logistics, we can make a real difference in=
 the lives of our own young adults. Choose the day you would like to help, =
try to attend an optional training session on Saturday, February 10 from 9 =

ROSE-GRAMS FOR YOUR STUDENTS

This Valentine's Day, send roses to your students a rose and help the AVID =
(Advancement Via Individual Determination) student program at the same time=
.  To order a Rose-Gram, list your student(s)' name(s), fourth period teach=
er, and a brief message, and place your request, with payment, in Rachel An=
dres' mailbox in the main office. You can also mail an order and payment to=
 her at the high school (555 Middlefield Rd. Atherton, CA 94027). Rose-Gram=
 orders received by Friday, February 2 are $3 per flower, orders received b=
y Friday, February 9 are $4 per flower, and orders received Monday, Februar=

y colleges, and listen to a panel discussion on student life, transfer, car=
eer programs and short degrees, financial aid, and getting started at commu=

MORE COLLEGE HAPPENINGS

DeAnza College sponsors a Black College Fair on Saturday, February 3 from 1=
0 a.m. to 2 p.m.  in the school auditorium.  This annual event hosts repres=
entatives from more than 20 colleges that have traditionally served Black s=
tudents.

Down the road at Foothill, same time, same day (February 3 from 10 to 2) st=
udents can receive free financial aid information and help filling out the =
FAFSA at a Cash for College workshop. =


CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION

California Scholarship Federation applications will be accepted during lunc=
h in front of B-22 the week of February 5.   Students need to bring their t=
ranscripts or report cards (not Communicado printouts) along with $3.  If y=

ruary 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, from 10:50 a.=
m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursday, February 8, from 10:50 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and/o=
r Friday, February 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

GETTING READY FOR COLLEGE 101

Your sophomores, juniors, and seniors may want to attend the Skyline Colleg=
e workshops on Saturday, February 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Workshops will =
focus on paying for college, writing personal statements for college applic=
ations, choosing a career path, ensuring college success, and more. Univers=
ity representatives will be present to answer questions.  The cost is $12 f=
or preregistered students, $15 at the door; the fee includes lunch and mate=
rials.  Tell your students to stop by the guidance counselors' office or ca=
reer center for more information.

STRESSED OUT STUDENTS (AND PARENTS)

The M-A PTA invites you to attend an evening with Denise Pope, founder of S=
tanford University's SOS (Stressed Out Students) project, on February 12 at=
 7 p.m. in the J building.  She will be joined by a panel of M-A students t=
o discuss the SOS project, the effects of stress on students, and the ways =
in which we can work to help our students deal with pressure.  You will als=
o find out about M-A's own PTA-sponsored SOS Task Force.   For more informa=

WIILLY WONKA WINTER FORMAL

Save the date for the winter formal: February 23.  Tickets are $30 for sing=
les, $50 for couples, and are on sale at lunch outside B-21.   Toil for Tic=
kets is available for students who want to earn their winter formal tickets=
.  They need to sign up with Mrs. Todd in B-20.  Each hour of work for a st=
aff member outside class hours earns a $10 credit.  Students should not let=
 the lack of dollars stand in the way of dancing the night away.

SOPHOMORE PARENT COLLEGE INFO NIGHT

February 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the library.   For parents only, no students.  =
This is your opportunity for a casual Q&A with counselor Alice Kleeman.  We=

SPORTS

BASKETBALL

The varsity boys defeated Menlo yesterday 49-48 to move into a first place =
tie with Menlo.  A huge thank you to the 6th man club for their continued s=
upport.  Tomorrow night, February 2, is another big game versus Carlmont at=
 M-A.  Tip off is at 7:45pm.  It is also Senior Night, so come support our =
eight seniors, and please leave the air horns at home.

SOCCER

Our girls host Menlo today on Coach Parks Field.  Join us at 3 p.m. for the=
 varsity game and 4:15 for the frosh-soph match.
