>From the Administration regarding the opening of school:
--The next three days will be regular seven period days. Block classes
begin Wednesday 8/29 and Thursday 8/30 for this academic year. Monday
September 3rd, 2007 is Labor Day, a school holiday. We will stay on
our
regular bell schedule for the remainder of that week. (For future
reference, school bell schedules are located on the main page of our
school website--it is the sixth button on the left hand side).
--For students who missed the first day of school today, schedules will
be available beginning at 7 a.m.tomorrow in the wrestling room, which
is located next to the new gym on Ringwood Avenue. Students must turn
in an emergency card and have successfully completed residency
verification in order to pick up their schedule.
--Please continue to leave extra time in the mornings and afternoons as
you or your child access the school site, as our theater construction
has significantly reduced parking and interfered with the flow of
traffic down Faculty Lane in the front.
--We also want to remind parents that we are instituting a new policy
regarding all electronic devices, including cell phones and ipods. We
have a three step set of consequences. Our previous policy, and the
situation with electronic devices in general, became very cumbersome
and
frustrating towards the end of last year. There was much consternation
amongst staff and administration; students did not always clearly
understand our policy and found many ways to circumvent it.
Our new policy is as follows:
Students are allowed to use electronic devices before school, during
lunch, and after school. During classes, electronic devices need to be
turned off and put away. If an electronic device is seen or used in
class, the following consequences apply:
1) On a first offense, the student is suspended for the remainder of
the class period where the infraction occurred. The teacher makes
parent contact and the incident is entered into the student behavior
file.
2) On a second offense, the student is sent out of class and suspended
(held out) of the following two class periods for that subject. An
administrator will make home contact.
3) On a third and all subsequent offenses, the student will be
suspended for one school day.
