CAREER FAIR
We will be hosting a career fair on April 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. Students are invited to come meet professionals from a variety of backgrounds. Fun, food, and facts about your potential future!
MAY DAY FOR SENIORS
Next Tuesday, May 1, will be a late day for seniors because of STAR testing, but they do need to attend a mandatory senior meeting at 8:45 a.m. in the J-building. Again, that is May Day at 8:45 a.m
BIG BEAR RUN
It is not too late to register for the second annual Big Bear Run, scheduled for Sunday, May 6, at 9 a.m. Hop over to http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1413981 today.
THE RUN NEEDS NON-RUNNERS TOO!
Race day volunteers needed to serve as course monitors. You will be directing and cheering on the runners from approximately 8-10 a.m. on Sunday, May 6. Contact Cindy Newton at newton_c at sbcglobal.net if you would like to be part of the action without having to break a sweat.
SENIOR PARENTS: TIME TO ORDER CAPS AND GOWNS
Make sure your senior picks up cap and gown information in B-21. All graduation and prom information is available online at www.mabears.org. Note also that students who cannot afford caps and gowns can apply for financial aid. See Geri Nicholas in the office.
JUNIOR/SENIOR PROM: TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW!
This yearâ s prom is scheduled for Friday, May 11 at the San Francisco Regency Center at 1300 Van Ness Avenue from 8 pm to midnight.
Tickets are now on sale for $50 single, $90 couple in front of B-21 at lunch. Guest passes are available too. For more info, contact Jenna Carson at jcarson at seq.org.
Students who want to earn the money for tickets should sign up in B-20. Each hour of work outside class hours earns students a 10 credit towards a dance ticket! See Mrs Todd in B-20 with any questions.
GRAD NIGHT NOTES
Make sure that your senior has purchased Grad Night 2007 tickets for the PTA-sponsored, all-night, safe & sober party that will take place on the night of Graduation. Ticket requests are available in English and Spanish in the school office, and must be signed by parents and accompanied by a check for $100 payable to M-A Grad Night 2007. Scholarships are available; students should speak to Geri Nicholas.
YOU ARE AMAZING
The PTA Nominating Committee thanks you all for your tremendous response to our plea for volunteers. A lot of folks signed up to help with Fashion Show and Grad Night at the Junior Parent meeting last Monday, but you can still toss your hat into the ring by contacting either of our incoming PTA Presidents, Julie Brody (julie at brodyfamily.net) or Pam Stoner (pastoner at yahoo.com). They can put you in touch with the new chairs of these committees.
We now have just one job remaining to be filled (but itâ s an important one):
***a Trivocis calendar editor***
Great volunteer opportunity for a parent who needs a job with flexible hours. If you would like to step forward (or if you want to nominate the perfect candidate) please call or email David Jones at 328-5249 or DMacLJones at aol.com.
BEN PARKS INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME
M-Aâ s beloved Coach Parks, a mentor, teacher, and friend to many during his 40 years in our district, will be inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on June 21. Coach is now 72, and his wife had a stroke and is not in good health. It would mean a lot for him to see old friends at this event!
Banquet tickets, priced at $50 each, will go on sale early next month. Proceeds from the event will benefit the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City which houses the Hall of Fame's full collection of plaques. For more information, call (650) 348-4332.

GOLF
Our golfers were among 17 teams that competed in the Aptos Invitational on Monday at Seascape Golf Course, placing seventh behind teams including Serra and Mountain View. Contributing to the team match score of 401 were Nick Sako (77), Jamie Walsh and Ben Jackson each with 79, and Greg Sako shooting 80.
All members of our varsity scoring squad are currently ranked among the top 25 PAL individuals in a field of 121 league players from 15 teams. Four of our Bears placed in the Top Ten including #1 Nick Sako, #4 Jake Hall Toy, #6 Elliot Hume, and #9 Jamie Walsh! Good luck in the PAL Individual Playoffs that start on May 1, followed by CCS.
LACROSSE
The seniors on the boysâ varsity team played their final home game Wednesday. After a tough fight, the boys lost to Bellarmine 11-6. Mark Gregory found the net 2 times, while Alex Johnson, Kevin Flaherty, Charlie Fitz, and Chris Bachler slammed in one each. Bo Dunnahoo-Kirsch saved 11 goals. Next week the team has away games at Woodside and Leland.
Our JV girls remain undefeated after a 16-7 victory over Sacred Heart. Goals were made by Alex Fanelli (6), Kendall Eder (4), Chloe Peterson (2), and one apiece from Janika Lintz, Elise Rudolph, Eileen Johnson, and Taylor Wentz with numerous assists by Eileen Johnson. Molly Murphy and Monika Decker provided strong defense. Kendall Eder had her best game ever. The Bears amazed the fans with their performance, especially Alex Fanelli's blind shot goal.
The girlsâ varsity recovered from a 4 goal halftime deficit to defeat Sacred Heart 14-12 on Tuesday to run their PAL record to 11-0. Led by goalie Julia Robinson and the defense of Megan Power, the Bears limited the Gators to only 3 goals in the second half. Kayla Ushman had 4 goals and 3 assists. Tenley Breen and Casey Burnett each scored three goals, Mackenzie Rodgers had 2 goals, Rei Nakamura had 1 goal and 1 assist, while Anna Murveit found the back of the net once. The Bears travel to Leland on Friday.
SOFTBALL
Our team started the week with a couple of heartbreaking losses. They first lost to Jefferson 4-2 in 9 innings, and then lost late in the game to Woodside 5-1. This brings their record to 8-9 overall and 4-4 in League play. In the Jefferson game, the leading hitters were Demi Battaglia with 3 hits and both Tami Vujovich and Emily McPhearson with 2 hits. The only runs were driven in by Olivia Vagelos and Tami Vujovich, who set another school record with 17 strikeouts in the 9 innings complete game while only giving up 3 hits. The Woodside game was tied until the fifth inning when Woodside finally pushed across enough runs to win 5-1. Leading hitters were Chelsea Mongird, Tiffany Kung and Tami Vujovich, all with one hit. Next game is Friday in South San Francisco
SWIM
The Aquabears have their first ever meet against Westmoor today.
TENNIS
With a PAL playoff spot clinched, the boys took on Independence of San Jose to wrap up their regular season schedule. Led by the undefeated doubles teams of Zack Schwab/Carson Weiss and Noah Greenberg/Matt Boles Aguilar, the team's performance was amazing. While M-A lost some points, they rarely lost a game, dispatching Independence 7-0. At #1 & #2 singles, George Horowitz and Alec Haley won easily despite breaking three rackets between them during their matches.
The Bears take on the Dons of Aragon in the PAL Playoffs, Monday at 3:30 at M-A. With a win, M-A will play either San Mateo or Burlingame in the finals for an automatic spot in the CCS Playoffs. Come out and root for our players.
