COME ALONG FOR THE DRIVE

Make M-A's Canned Food Drive a success!  Students hope to collect 110,000 c=
ans of food to distribute to the more than 400 needy families in our school=
 community.  You can help in two ways:  =


DONATE:  Give cans or cash to your students or bring them to the leadership=
 room, B-21.
 =

VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME:  If you would like to help sort cans, fill baskets, or=
 drive for deliveries we need you!  If you are available during any of the =
days listed below, please contact Diane Kelvie (dkelvie at aol.com, 364-5950) =

THURSDAY, December 7-- 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. - sort and organize the food for di=
stribution.  Many volunteers needed, some physical labor involved

FRIDAY, December 8 - noon to 6 p.m. - help distribute as food is picked up

SATURDAY, December 9 - 9a.m. to 3 p.m. Many drivers needed to deliver food =
to families.  =

HELP OUR PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

You may or may not be aware that the Town of Atherton has filed a lawsuit t=
o stop construction of our Performing Arts Center.  All parents are invited=
 to a special meeting hosted by superintendent Pat Gemma this Wednesday, No=
vember 29, in the M-A library at 7:30 to obtain information about the dispu=
te, talk about how we can support the district and school, and organize a p=
resentation for the December Atherton Town Council meeting.   Please email =
Anne Peck at peckah at cooley.com or Pat Gemma at pgemma at seq.org if you plan t=
o attend.


ALGEBRA RECOVERY =


If your students received a D or F first quarter, we can help.  Encourage t=
hem to visit C-4 during seventh period and after school.  Your students' al=
gebra teachers can provide more details.


PUTTING THE FUN IN DYSFUNCTIONAL

M-A students will be presenting the renowned Tennesee Williams play, Cat on=
 a Hot Tin Roof, on Thursday, November 30, Friday, December 1, and Saturday=
, December 2 with shows at 7 p.m. on each day plus (in the best Broadway tr=
adition) a 2 p.m. matinee on December 2. All shows will be held in the Blac=
k Box Theatre (room C-16) at Menlo-Atherton High School. For tickets, email=
 apaye at seq.org or stop by room C-16 during lunch and buy a ticket for $8.  =
This show will play one weekend only, and you won't want to miss Julia Robi=
nson in her first starring role at Maggie the Cat and freshman sensation Ke=
enan Rehlich as Brick Pollit.


CAREER CENTER

Just in case you missed the info on these programs, we're sending out this =
reminder.

--Learn more about Oxbridge Academic Programs (see www.oxbridgeprograms.com=
) on Monday, December 11 from 7-9 p.m. at the Palace Hotel Sunset Court, 2 =
New Montgomery Street, San Francisco. The Oxbridge Programs offer summer ex=
periences in Oxford, Cambridge, and Paris (that several M-A students have e=
njoyed in the past), and a new program in Barcelona.  There are separate pr=
ograms for students depending on their grade level (from 8th to 12th).  For=

--The Woolman Semester is a program that poses the question, "Are peace, ju=
stice, and environmental sustainability really possible?"   Juniors, senior=
s, and post-grads can explore that question and more for a semester in the =
Sierra Foothills, taking classes in peace, justice, and environmental susta=
inability while earning high school credit in UC-approved courses.  Visit t=

d full scholarships are available for qualified students.

Within the next couple of months, Alice will update her database of interes=
ting summer programs for high school students.  Meanwhile, your students ar=
e welcome to come to the Career Center to peruse the summer-program files.


WEAR THE BEAR

Bear Wear is available in the Student Store each day at lunch!  We have t-s=
hirts for $10, baseball t-shirts for $15, white crewneck sweatshirts for $2=
0 and gray pocket hoodies for $25.  Also, support your student's class by b=
uying a class shirt for a mere $10. If you have any questions about Bear We=

CLASS OF 2007 GRAD NIGHT

The PTA is hosting a safe and sober all-night party at a top-secret locatio=
n to celebrate the Class of 2007's graduation. Tickets are $85 and scholars=
hips are available.  Get your tickets early, as prices will rise to $100 af=

PROJECT BACKPACK

Help clothe the chilly: bring your travel-sized toiletries and other essent=
ials (toothbrush, toothpaste), jackets, warm clothes, and especially backpa=
cks to A-4 in the office.  Outreach will give all items will be given to th=
e poor and homeless in San Francisco.


OLD CELL PHONES

Got old and unused phones lying around the house? The M-A Key Club (associa=
ted with Kiwanis) is having a cell phone drive with proceeds benefiting loc=
al children in our local area. Please drop your cell phones in the box in t=
he front office. =

Working or not, for deserving M-A students.  If your family or your busines=

2007 YEARBOOKS

Yearbook order forms are now available on line at the M-A website. You can =
either download an order form or pay with a credit card on line!  You can a=
lso go directly to Jostens at http://shop.jostens.com/customer.asp?CID=3D13=
0520&mscssid=3DFWVFBWF2SGP99GVL477PHM5RULSUAMH1 (be careful if you copy/pas=
te the foregoing into your browser-some of the letters may drop off the end=
 and will have to be manually appended).  Price for the yearbook is $65 unt=
il January 19.


If you used a check to pay for your yearbook, please keep your returned che=
ck. This is the only proof of your order and your only receipt.  You can al=
so email M-A yearbook at ma_yearbook at yahoo.com and ask if your order has go=
ne through.

PREPURCHASE LUNCH - LUNCH MADE EASY
If you don't want to give your student cash to take to school why not prepu=
rchase lunches?
You can prepay for your students' school lunches simply by writing a check =
for the amount you wish to prepay and sending it with your student
to give to any food kiosk attendant or mailing it to SUHSD Food Services 48=
0 James Avenue Redwood City, CA  94062.   =


Be sure to include your student's ID number on the check.  If the check is =
for more than one student, each ID needs to be listed with the amount
for each.  Checks should be payable to SUHSD Food Services.

After receiving the check, Food Services will mail a PIN to your home addre=
ss.  The student simply enters the PIN at any food kiosk to access
the money in the account. Questions? Call 369-1411 extension 2590.

FACTS Forum =

Ralph Castro, M.S., Alcohol and Drug Educator at Vaden Student Health Cente=
r at Stanford University, will be our guest at the December 5th FACTS Forum=
 at 7:30 p.m. in the library. As many parents of college students know, col=
lege freshman must complete an on-line alcohol awareness test as a conditio=
n of admission. Ralph Castro will discuss what Stanford University is seein=
g in terms of alcohol use on campus and entertain questions as to what we s=
hould be thinking of talking about with our M-A students.

SOCCER

Congratulations to the frosh/soph girls' team on their 2-0 victory over Sum=
mit Prep last Friday.  Casey Burnett and Heather Bogott scored the goals, w=
hile the solid defense and keepers Melissa Hall and Liv Vagelos get credit =
for the shutout!

Girls' Softball
There will be an informational meeting at lunch on Thursday, November 30 in=
 the old Dance Studio for all girls interested in playing softball this Spr=
ing.  =


Baseball
There will be conditioning Tuesday afternoon for all baseball players inter=
ested in playing Spring baseball.   Please meet on the field at 2:45 sharp.=
  If there are any questions, stop by Coach Amoroso's room.
