TONIGHT! Teenaged brain presentation at Carlmont; water polo CCS
semifinal

November 15: Sign up for College Entrance Exam Prep course (juniors
only; better get to bed early tonight)

GOT ANY RAGS?

Leadership needs clean rags and painting supplies (new brushes, rollers,
and pans) for ongoing beautification. Please drop off in B-22.

WEAR THE BEAR

Bear Wear is available in the Student Store each day at lunch!  We have
t-shirts for $10, baseball t-shirts for $15, white crewneck sweatshirts
for $20 and gray pocket hoodies for $25.  Also, support your student's
class by buying a class shirt for a mere $10. Bear Wear will also be
available for purchase at the football games against Woodside on
Saturday, November 11.  If you have any questions about Bear Wear,

SLEEP SCORE

Over 1300 M-A students were asked about sleep, and here is what we
found: 

--2/3 believe average teens need less sleep than they actually do (the
average adolescent requires 9 to10 hours of sleep per night.)

--1/3 believe you cannot make up lost sleep (you can)

--3/4 believe dreams occur faster or slower than real time (dreams
actually occur in real time, minute for minute.)

Dr Mark Rosekind presented these results to around 70 parents, students,
and faculty members at the recent PTA meeting on teens and sleep.   Save
Tuesday, January 23 for Dr. Rosekind's return and more information about

THE TEENAGE BRAIN AND HOW TO LIVE WITH ONE

Has your beloved child turned into an alien creature who can't stand
you?  Join other parents on Tuesday, November 14 from 7:30-9:00pm in the
Carlmont Student Union.  Parent educator Nancy Rahimi, herself the
mother of two Carlmont students, will explore what has become of that
child you knew so well and how to effectively interact with your teens
during this transitional stage we call adolescence.  This event,
sponsored by the Carlmont PTSA, could mark the beginning of new and
rewarding family dynamics.

HOLA M-A!

The M-A Caliente dance, featuring salsa, reggaeton, rap, hip hop, and
much more is scheduled for Friday, November 17 from 7-10 p.m.  Tickets
are available for $5 in front of the leadership room, B-21.

QUIZ BOWL CLUB

Congratulations to the Quiz Bowl club!  At yesterday's tournament they
emerged undefeated, beating Carlmont, Half Moon Bay and San Mateo.

The PTA is hosting a safe and sober all-night party at a top-secret
location to celebrate the Class of 2007's graduation. Tickets are $85
and scholarships are available.  Get your tickets early, as prices will

COLLEGES ON CAMPUS

Colleges visiting the Career Center this week include San Francisco
State, Drew, Mt. Holyoke, Holy Names, Bates, and Prescott.  Students
need to stop by the Career Center for times, dates, and passes to
attend.

YEARBOOK DEDICATIONS

Seniors' personal dedication pages are due by November 17. Seniors who
need a form should see Ms Woolf during sixth period or after school. 

PANORAMIC PHOTOS

You can still order panoramic photos of the senior class.  The price is
$18 with out the frame and $30 with a frame, checks should be payable to
LIFETOUCH, and turned in to Ms Woolf's box by November 17.  Thank you to
all who have already ordered yours!

THE FUTURE IS NOW

The Foundation for the Future's annual direct donation campaign is
underway.  Please join us in supporting excellence in education at M-A

PROJECT BACKPACK

Help clothe the chilly: bring your travel-sized toiletries and other
essentials (toothbrush, toothpaste), jackets, warm clothes, and
especially backpacks to A-4 in the office.  Outreach will give all items
will be given to the poor and homeless in San Francisco.

FOR JUNIORS ONLY

Enrollment for the College Entrance Exam Preparation (CEEP) a spring
semester course offered only during period 0 (7 a.m every morning) to
help juniors improve their SAT math, critical reading, and writing
scores, will take place on Wednesday morning, November 15, at 6:30 a.m.
in Room D20.  The course is taught by veteran teachers Gregg Whitnah and
Liane Strub, and is limited to 70 juniors. If more than 70 register, a
lottery will be held, with results posted outside room D20 by 1:40 p.m.
that day. The November 15 meeting will include a 45-minute orientation
to CEEP.

OLD CELL PHONES

Got old and unused phones lying around the house? The M-A Key Club
(associated with Kiwanis) is having a cell phone drive with proceeds
benefiting local children in our local area. Please drop your cell
phones in the box in the front office.

2007 YEARBOOKS

Yearbook order forms are now available on line at the M-A website. You
can either download an order form or pay with a credit card on line!
You can also go directly to Jostens at

manually appended).  Price for the yearbook is $65 until January 19.  If
you have questions or would like to buy a personal dedication page for
your senior, please email the staff at MA_yearbook at yahoo.com

If you used a check to pay for your yearbook, please keep your returned
check. This is the only proof of your order and your only receipt.  You
can also email M-A yearbook at ma_yearbook at yahoo.com and ask if your
order has gone through.

LUNCH MADE EASY

You can prepay for your students' school lunches simply by writing a
check for the amount you wish to prepay and sending it with your student
to give to any food kiosk attendant or mailing it to SUHSD Food Services
480 James Avenue Redwood City, CA  94062.   

Be sure to include your student's ID number on the check.  If the check
is for more than one student, indicate each student's ID and the amount
per student. Checks should be payable to SUHSD Food Services.

After receiving the check, Food Services will mail a PIN to your home
address.  The student simply enters the PIN at any food kiosk to access

***SPORTS***

FOOTBALL

Congratulation to the frosh/soph football team. After beating Woodside
31 to 7, they finished the season with a 9-0 record, tied for
co-champions of the bay division.  Leading the way were Russell Perkins,
David McLaughlin, Eric Stanske, Turner Baty and Viliami Talakai.  The
undefeated M-A JV football team beat Woodside on Saturday.  The varsity
team lost, but still took second place in the PAL and will play their
first CCS playoff game at M-A on Saturday, November 18 at 1 p.m.  Come
out and cheer on the Bears as they take on Santa Teresa!

Because the playoff is a CCS game, we don't get to set the prices.
Admittance is $5 for students with a PAL and $9 general admission.
There's a family plan (two general admission + two kids) for $18,
seniors ages 60 and up are $5, and children ages 12 and under are $2.
Only passes accepted for free entrance are CIF and CCS passes.  No other
boosters' passes are accepted, and everyone needs a ticket for entrance
Gates will open at 11:45.

WATER POLO

Our boys' team continues its CCS run tonight at Lynbrook High School,
with a 5:30 p.m. start for the semifinals.  A win will take them to the
CCS Championship this Saturday vs Independence High School in San Jose.
Go water bears! 

FALL SPORTS AWARDS

Awards will be handed out this Thursday!!  All coaches, parents, and
athletes are invited to join us Thursday, November 16 at 7 p.m. in the J
building. 

CONDITIONING FOR ALL

Head Track & Field Coach Vic will be running strength and conditioning
course four days a week for all student athletes that want to get
stronger, faster, and better conditioned no matter what sports they
play. 
 
Meet at the track on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3-5 p.m. and/or
Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:15-4:30 p.m. to participate.  Students
will also be using the weight room.  Cost: lots of hard work, lots of
fun, and an occasional plate of cookies, brownies, turkey sandwich, or
other treat for the coach.  Contact Coach Vic with any questions at
