FROM GELATO TO GIOTTO

Liane Strub, AP English and AP Art History teacher, is organizing a
European summer study tour for M-A students next summer. The tour offers
an intensive historical and cultural introduction Rome, Florence,
Venice, Paris and London. Students and parents who want to learn more
about this opportunity should join Liane for an introductory meeting on
Wednesday, September 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. in room C-15, or email
lstrub at seq.org for more information. 

DANCE DANCE

The freshman dance will be held on September 15, and freshmen can buy
tickets on the green.  The back-to-school dance for all students is
scheduled for Friday, September 22 in the J building, with tickets
available in front of the leadership room at lunch. 


VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Got a few minutes (or more) to spare?  We have a variety of jobs
available, and one is sure to fit your schedule and talents.

	*GOT A CAR? A PHONE? AND AN EXTRA HALF HOUR?

	We need help delivering over 40 donated computers to the homes
of deserving M-A students.  We provide the students' contact information
and address.  You pick up one computer (or several), make appointments
with the students, and deliver the computers to their homes.  They will
carry the computer from your car-no heavy lifting required.  Contact Sue

	*GRAPHICS STARS: THIS ONE'S FOR YOU
	PTA Co-President Leslie Airola needs a volunteer to design and
produce campaign-style buttons for staff.  Email her at
lairola at gmail.com  
	*PHOTOGRAPHERS
	Want to give your camera a workout?  The PTA would like you to
create a display board that includes pictures of all teachers and staff
members.  You will need to take the photos, then assemble them in
alphabetical order. Your work will be prominently displayed on campus
for all to admire.  Email Leslie Airola at lairola at gmail.com for more
info or to volunteer.

	*FOR A TRANSFORMATION VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE...

	Sign up to help with M-A's incredible annual freshmen challenge.
If you can lead a small group or help with event logistics, please sign
up to work on campus on Monday, October 30 and/or Tuesday, October 31
between 7:15 am and 3 p.m.

	A training session for small group leaders is scheduled for
Saturday, October 28 from 9-10 a.m. at M-A.

GO ASK ALICE

Those four years of high school zip by quickly, and before you know it,
your student will be off to college.   Navigating the admissions process
can be intimidating, but help is at hand thanks to the incredible Alice
Kleeman and the Menlo-Atherton Career Center.   Hop over to
http://www.macareercenter.com to sign up for her email list.  You will
receive occasional emails discussing colleges, scholarships, financial
aid, and other post-high school items of interest.    Parents should be
sure to join only the PARENT list; there are two students-only lists
(one for juniors and one for seniors) as well.


STRAIGHT FROM SEVENTH AVENUE

The annual Fashion Show, featuring senior students as models, is
scheduled for October 21.  The Fashion Show is the primary fundraiser
for M-A's PTA, with hundreds of volunteer opportunities available to fit
your schedule and interests.   Parents from all classes are encouraged
to join in the fun and help with a job.  We have filled all chair
positions and now need committee members.

FOR SENIOR PARENTS (ER...PARENTS OF SENIORS) ONLY

	DOES YOUR SENIOR WANT TO MODEL?

	Last chance! Fashion Show orientation meetings for seniors are
scheduled for tonight, Thursday, August 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the J
building.

	SMILE!

	Seniors need to make an appointment with Prestige Photographers,
who are taking senior portraits.  Deadline: October 11.  If you cannot
find the information, the number for Prestige is posted outside E-21.


YEARBOOK ORDERS

Only nine months until summer vacation-but you can order your yearbooks
now.  Yearbook order forms are now available on line at the M-A website.
You can either download an order form or pay with a credit card on line!


PARENTS FOR PARENTS

Would you like to get together with a group of fellow parents for
presentations by professional adolescent and family counselors?  We are
scheduling neighborhood meetings for parents to talk about common issues

H20 RULES

M-A water polo had a great start to this year's promising season as the
varsity boys annihilated Valley Christian 10-2 in yesterday's game. JV
played well also and came out with a win.  Thanks to all the students
who came to watch; the fan support was incredible.  Let's keep it up!

FOOTBALL

Please note a correction to the time of the upcoming Varsity game
against Galileo.  It will be held this Saturday, September 9 on the M-A
field at 5:15 p.m.         JV plays at 3 p.m.  These games will provide
an exciting start to the season and we hope to see lots of fans in the
stands.
