Sequoia High School:

Sequoia High School, a stimulating and caring community, provides an educational program which develops academic and vocational excellence as well as critical thinking and communication skills. The curriculum promotes respect for cultural diversity, inspires an appreciation of the arts, fosters responsibility, self-esteem and self-direction leading to graduation, lifelong learning and positive contributions to society.

Sequoia High School has a 108-year history educating and preparing Peninsula youth for post-secondary education and a broad range of career opportunities.  As the communities Sequoia serves are rapidly changing, so, also, are the instructional issues and students’ needs.  What remains constant is Sequoia High School’s ability to attract the highly trained and committed credentialed graduates of the Peninsula’s teachers’ programs, such as Stanford, College of Notre Dame and San Francisco State University.  Sequoia’s staff is well prepared and determined to serve the diverse needs of our student body, which is so ready to learn.  Sequoia's highly educated staff sought and was granted International Baccalaureate “IB” status within one year.  As well, the staff wrote and developed the curriculum for our International College Advancement Program (ICAP) as the ninth and tenth grade preparation for IB.  Examples of Sequoia students’ willingness to learn are as follows: the increased number of students taking pre-Calculus and Advanced Placement courses, the increase in number of students graduating, and a decrease in the drop-out rate.

Sequoia High School has also developed a state-of-the art technology program, which is not surpassed by any high school on the Peninsula.  Sequoia houses the State’s oldest Electronics Academy, a “school-with-in the school” program which prepares students through coursework, Silicon Valley mentorships, and rich academic support, to enter directly into the technology industry or college.   Sequoia’s Information Technology Program includes course offerings such as: Web Design and Management, Computer Repair and Maintenance, and Computer Networking I & II.  Additionally, Sequoia has 10 fully operational computer labs and a newly renovated library, which offers the latest in technology to assist our students in their research and projects.
