Graduation Requirements ("District 220") |

220 Credits are required for graduation with five credits earned (per semester) for each course completed with a "D" grade or better. To graduate students also must successfully complete Algebra 1 or its equivalent, one year of a laboratory science, and pass the state-mandated High School Exit Exam.

Board approved changes starting 2009-2010:
(1) Change Practical Arts title to Career Technical Education (CTE). Effective for graduating class of 2013.
- - CTE is a program of study that integrates core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.
(2) Eliminate the Technology graduation requirement. Effective for graduating class of 2010.
(3) Align Safety Ed to the CDE Health Education Content Standards. The new course, now called Health Education, will remain a graduation requirement and will be taught in the 9th thru 12th grade for 5 credits. Effective for graduating class of 2013.
(4) Require passing U.S. History and Geography (10 credits); World History, Culture and Geography (15 credits);a one semester course in American Government and Civics (5 credits); and a one-semester course in Economics (5 credits), per Ed Code (Ed Code 51225.3).
(5) Continue with athletic substitution for PE credit.
- - 9th grade students will be required to take PE 1, 9th grade core course for 10 credits.
- - 9th grade students who participate in athletic competition will receive 2.5 elective credits.
- - Students in grades 10-12 who participate in athletic competition will earn 2.5 PE credits for each athletic sport. Effective for graduating class of 2013.
- State requirement - Not a district graduation requirement (Ed Code 51225.3) A student who fails the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) must continue taking PE until the student passes the PFT. The Board is no longer able to waive two (2) years of PE in grades 11-12 for students who failed PFT in grades 9 and 10.
