AB130 Independent Study

AB130 Independent Study

AB 130 calls for new independent study guidelines in the 2021-22 school year providing individualized study for students whose health would be at risk by receiving in-person instruction as determined by the student’s parent or guardian. Independent study courses are conducted through Edgenuity.  AB 130 requires that 9-12 grade students enrolled in Independent study receive live, two way instruction in small group or one-on-one delivered once a week in person, or in the form of internet or telephone communication.  Edgenuity course content meets the same A-G graduation requirements as in-person instruction. Families and students can learn more about courses by visiting Edgenuity’s Course List. Please note that only courses offered through SUHSD are offered to our students through Edgenuity.

If interested in the AB130 Independent Study option, please contact your student’s counselor.

Note: parents/guardians of students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that are interested in the AB130 Independent Study option should consult with their student's counselor, case manager, or contact the district's Special Education department. All applications start with a student's counselor.
SUHSD Independent Study

SUHSD Independent Study

The district's traditional Independent Study program (non-AB130) is an educational option available to students in the Sequoia Union High School District who may require an alternative setting to the traditional high school.

Independent Study students meet with the Independent Study teacher for approximately one hour each week to receive and review assignments. The curriculum is aligned to district and state standards. Students who are successful in Independent Study School are self-motivated and willing to work with minimal supervision in order to complete the coursework independently.

Referrals to the SUHSD Independent Study program are made through the Welfare and Attendance Advisor and the Director of Student Services at the District Office.
