Founded in 1895, the Sequoia Union High School District is an established leader in the San Francisco Mid-Peninsula region, including the diverse communities of Atherton, Belmont, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, Redwood Shores, San Carlos and Woodside.

The district serves 8,200 9-12 students through four distinguished, award-winning comprehensive high schools, a model continuation high school, a middle college in collaboration with Cañada College, and other specialized programs and services as well as an additional 8,000 students who enroll annually in classes through the district's adult school.

Under the "No Child Left Behind Act" our goal as a district is to hire certificated staff that is highly qualified in one or more fields. Federal Legislation states, the "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001," requires us as a public school to hire teachers that are highly qualified.

Teachers enter the Sequoia Union High School District with different professional development needs. We have created and implemented teacher support programs that are individualized and tailored to each teacher's identified needs.

All clear and professional clear credentials must be renewed online.

For holders of professional clear credentials: The Commission no longer requires verification of professional growth requirements (including clock hours and days of service) when renewing your teaching or services credentials. Once your document is renewed, it will be issued as a "clear" credential.

The online renewal requires access to the internet and payment via Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card.

To obtain an emergency credential, applicant must:

  • Possess a bachelor's degree or higher education
  • Have passed the CBEST
  • Have at least 18 semester units or nine upper or graduate units at a college or university in the subject matter to be taught. If this is going to be a renewal, the applicant must have the Form CL 469 completed by the credential office of the university where he/she is currently enrolled.

To apply for CLAD certificate, applicant must:

  • Have passed the three examinations for CLAD and six for BCLAD or completed the 12 semester units of CLAD courses acceptable to the Commission on Credentialing.

Fingerprinting Information

All employees must have a Department of Justice check through LiveScan before they can begin work. We do this to ensure the safety of our students and all employees.

All volunteers working for the Sequoia Union High School district must be fingerprinted through LiveScan if they are going to be unsupervised with the students. Volunteers that are supervised by a staff member undergo a background check through the Sheriff's office.

Moving on the Salary Schedule

A classified/probationary employee will move to the next step of the salary schedule after completion and successfully passing a six month probationary period. From this time/month on, the employee will advance to the next step every year until the top step (step 5) has been reached provided that he/she has a satisfactory evaluation.

Once you have submitted your application, it will be sent to the Human Resources Department for review. Not all applicants will be contacted.

If you have your California Teaching Credential or 30 Day Sub Permit

  • Copy of Credential or 30 Day Sub Permit

  • Official (sealed) College Transcripts

NOTE: 30 Day Sub Permit Application is completed at the District Office once Certificate of Clearance has been granted from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Current Substitute Teachers can sign in to our online sub system, AESOP.  Each substitute will get their own login ID and pin to view assignments at http://www.aesoponline.com.
